laying back sun warmed

stretch cat like, 
surround the earth
taking it into me

thoughts drift, form, part

cold-blooded
tree’s scant
leafless twigs 
bend and break
creek and whither

Anaemic the suns
pathetic rise
and fall so soon
the rainplunge of
icedew sickens
to greysludge gloom


Winter takes hold
cold-blooded

iceflesh to bone
sallow and shrunken
we faceforce doom

He had aged for every one of his days
As he worked his life away
They say the knees are the first to go
Then his back ache began to show

The lines on his face from the sun 
Were earned each day for work not fun
Until the years added up for him
And old age early did begin

For labouring your life away
Meant your life would be a shorter stay
For honest labour has no choice
And older people have no voice.

The other day
I lay for an echo of my heart

The technician scanned my chest and sides
I could hear my heart pant aloud

Oh boy! Was that a chugging train,
a distant wail, water gurgling,
or a rhythmic rub inside an empty tub?

The guy sure was at frantic speed
wailing all the while

Thank the Lord 
He has made sure
we never hear
the perturbations
of this friend of ours
labouring inside each of us
all twenty-four hours

The right frame of mind is essential,
If you want to achieve to your potential,
A matter one should not treat as trivial.

For me it was baking, 
That started me thinking,
About drinking.

I stopped thinking about drinking,
The moment I started expecting,
And gave up shrinking.

Now I am enjoying,
Instead of labouring,
Loving instead of dreading.

The mistakes are no longer coming,
Which leaves others wondering,
Why my baking is now so tempting....
