Collector's Clutter
Dealers’ catalogs, they pile
My desk and overflow my file,
My first editions fight for space:
Like weeds, the price-lists choke their place....

Devour a Good Book
Once a bookworm from Timbuktu
Devoured every book he went through
He was quiet scary
Ate every book in the library
First editions, hardcovers and paperbacks too

Window
upstairs window
the fields looking as
covered with snow in the night
thinking of all and nothing
but the moonlit fields
my zen books,
peter pauper press editions,
yellow with age now
showing my steadfast love
for no-mind even now...

Scent of Lilac- Part I
A scent of lilac
astride the dawn.
A hidden cricket
starts singing a dirge
to the evening star
for his morning stars
that he never dared
to turn into day.

Blue Dog by George Rodrigue
George Rodrigue never expected the Blue Dog to be his ticket to fame
But it is, and it has never stopped
If you were one of the lucky ones, you have first editions
Purchased for a mere pittance on the streets of New Orleans
Others can copy it, but they had better not.
Everyone knows who has rights to the Blue Dog
George has become rich off of him, and rightly so...

Time Elite
time elite
editions defeat
crawling under streets
railroading ghetto sheets
undercover mother heaps
coal from miners daughtes
diamonds up for societys slaughter
ghost poems favoring hollow words
each step is life turning as it learns
reasoning crushed beyond reason
time was time before each season
words ran rabid after rabbits
turtles snail stuck
track
in
habits

All In the Mind
Who needs a boost?
With endorphins you are always in the driving seat.
Belt up about clean bill!
Self love, self acceptance come in standard and
De Lux Editions, jewel case or soft pack
signed by the inner peace within.
Put those axons and dendrites to work.
Pump up those dormant alkalies asleep on the job.
Treat yourself well,
be your best health care plan,
be that one and only healer,
wave goodbye to doctors bills!...

Oh, My Faces and Image of Mine
Oh, my faces and image of mine,
They aren’t having some likeness of yours
I’m not prince I’m not master of mine
with the oil or gold, it’s not loss.
I won’t freeze on the pictures of glance
in editions of fashion and vogue
Royal parties won’t take off the suns
from my cheeks after their idle talk.
I’m the same as I was in the past
And the crows fly above my poor head
I don’t need their falsehood, I’m guest
in this show, save your crown for next lad....

Lyric
Bookshop Osmosis
The glossy acrylic smell of new editions
is cordite to my nose,
an explosive mixture of - need to know.
I finger trawl over dust covers
mindreading unread masterpieces.
Movies ransacked many of these novels,
hearsay and word of mouth
account for aisles
of open secrets and
commonly revealed revelations.
I should obtain a dozen or so acclaimed sagas,
display them on a prominent shelf –
because, well, one really ought to,
or maybe just read last chapters,
if not too long.
