A Broken Mirror

A Broken Mirror
A Distorted Face
A Shattered Heart
A Clear Distaste

A Fallen Tear
A Reddened Eye
A Downturned Mouth
A Year Gone By

A Loaded Gun
A Finished Fear
A Bloodied Wall
A Broken Mirror

Black-eyed Susan, a Summer doll.
Bright, yellow, with downturned petals.
My childhood shadow skips along
the trail with honeysuckle scent.

Flow’rs stunning in a garden fete.
Her sunrays smile in a vast field.
Petals dance in a circle ‘round
Susan’s sun-soaked, ebony eye.

Downtime and Dust Trio

timeout

polished sandstone grains
fine trickle through time's measure
in downturned hourglass

            made out of dust

man grinds man to dust
harsh words make quicksand for him
dust speaks up for dust

           Elah unveiled

in Elah's vale
a stone's throw from enigma
gigantic hate falls

Steel Face

I once wore a thick, black mask
That made me seem tough, bad
Covered my eyes, nose, and mouth
So I could not see my foes
Or smell the stench of their insults
My downturned mouth shut
My silence suggesting I was okay
Unaffected by their attacks
Until one day the mask fell
Revealing my thin, peach-colored skin
And I quashed them with my true self
More powerful than my armor

Premium Member Cryonic Comfort

It is as cold as the tomb
When its thick white blanket
Shrouds the now dormant earth
Pristine and pure
Muffling sound
Making us the living dead.

Up above sparkle the icy heavens
Sending down the deathly
Pallor of the moon.
Downturned knives of icicles
Stand guard over windows
Frosted with runic designs.

Resurrection from this suspended
State of animation
Recommences with the thaw
When the icy daggers drip
Reproclaiming the essence of life.
