Raindrops On the Roof

tanka

On the edge of sleep
lulled by the rain on the roof
my fluffy pillow
whispers a telling secret
sudden damper on my dreams

And When Life Brings You Down

And when life brings you down
Look to me
Because I search for you
When God puts a damper
On my life
And you know all of me
When the rest of the world
Shuts me out

Broken System

oh lord, this court has bled me dry
from funds to time in jail
and all i want's to lock in love
and justice to prevail
why is it that those butthead dads
can get away scar free
but i must give up all i had
and still they damper me...

Premium Member Beauty

Fall
Starts
Patches
Fill with red
Yellow, gold, rust.
Cloudy, rainy day
Puts a damper on light's
Revealing forest's beauty.
Then someone switches on the sun~
The illumination almost blinds~
Awesome is the masterpieces' radiance.

I Was Playing Footsie

I was playing footsie with Carrie
Really I was not in hurry
                                    Carrie lost her temper
                                      Put me on a damper
Guzzled beer smeared my face with curry

words of strings

damper sound without a box

fuse less high key string fret and the low beckoning

saint the same slide you grew out from

drink news and through lava liqour drips off

damper stage and dampening cat cry

you got news and sew my drums lose

i know its been done

speak frothing failure against

Protests

In the 60’s we protested
Out on the quads
With our armbands and banners and signs
‘Til the rage manifested
By police riot squads
Put a damper on all our designs.

We erected no tents
And we went home to sleep
But were sure we could orchestrate change.
Yet these current events
Which on campuses sweep
Seem, to me, very different and strange.

Premium Member Fun With Too To and Two

I was too excited to join the two-some on Tuesday.
Too enthusiastic to want to damper my happiness with those two.
I heard that those two were boring, too, my friend Two-pack said.
You are not wrong, I assured him. They are too much.
I hope this was not too honest.
Do you really care? Asked two of my friends.
I was too conflicted to answer these two.
Next Tuesday do you want to come too?

A Funeral

Death and its mournful tidings
Obituaries and eulogies, read
Black ties and black veils, all in rows
Surround this shell and the open earth
The cold, damp wind sashays through and through
Memories, half a century old are lost and forgotten
A flight of geese overhead, perform a last flyover
Victory in death
Vestiges of family, say farewell and Godspeed
Tomorrow brings colder and damper weather

Premium Member It Is All About Me

It is all about me, I sing.
My banter.
My mantra.
My anthem.
My song...

Me, me, me, me, me, me, ME! I sing.
Entertaining myself greatly.
Loving it so very much.

Others roll their eyes,
apparently tired of hearing my ME song.

I care not.
They cannot dampen or damper me.
They cannot discourage me, slow me down or stop me.

I am in full ME swing now.
Never tiring of this song myself.

It Never Ends

Water, water everywhere
And all the dishes in sink.
Mud tracks smeared everywhere
Wiped away to return in a wink.

Food, food so much to make
Breakfast, lunch, supper.
Just diet, for God’s sake
Plus, you’re such a lousy tipper.

Heaps and heaps in the hamper
Sweaters, hoodies and jeans.
Every day it’s a damper
Walking into these monstrous scenes.

Inspired by the "ruined" first line of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

Premium Member Damper Waves

Do you recall that hut beside the shore?
It shook at dawn, to rhythm toss of waves.
We lolled in cycle round of driven love,

so young and pure of heart, we teased in love
without a clue of caution sign on shore.
We failed to see how angry rose the waves,

reposed inside till swept to sea in waves.
Beset by fear without one thought of love,
we prayed the wind propel us back to shore.

Love's ardor drowns if shore's awash in waves.

Why We Live

Why we Live
Subtle passing of a life of force,
In Spirit rides a silver Horse,
Wants corn meat n damper,
With tomato sauce,
No eating in the Spirit, cos,
Flesh n blood goes with the Feeling,
So ride yes ride the silver Horse,
Review past life in healing,
Come back for sensual intercourse,
Yes babe new life I'm a stealing.
Don Johnson

Originally we jumped into animals to feel in the flesh pleasures n pain, no feelings in the Spirit form.

Premium Member I Am the Wind

I am the wind
You cannot hold me back
Rain cannot put a damper on me
I race to be seen.
I twirl and whirl with joy.
My life is the bomb!
I am living my truth.

Someone throws out words that mean nothing today
I am in full blown play mood.
You cannot stop me or even put me on pause.
I will do and say and live how I want.
Today is mine.
The sun is shining, and the birds are singing.
I am in full blown joy mood.

I am the wind.
You cannot hold me back.

Premium Member Another Way To Win the Lotto

Our nature is to dream,
and want to win what we don't have now.
When disappointed,
wouldn't it be nice to have the ability to be patient,
when we don't get what we want this minute.
When enthusiasm is diminished due to a loss,
can't we learn to resist,
letting it put a damper on trying new things.
Then we might realize winning could be in the excitement generated by
sharing, and being caught up in the enjoyment of a moment, with a friend.
Valuable to our spirits,
not our ledgers.
