Poplars
 
against the rising moon;
filled full of roosting cormorants-
sleeping;
as 
long shadows,
rippling between
reflections of scudding clouds-
where evanescent images
settle....

skiff glides smoothly
as if floating on the dense fog
cormorants perch on pilings
silence broken by hungry gulls
rising sun glistens water
salt air invigorates my being
memories engulf me...

What if the sea stopped moving, 
lay as still as setting concrete? 
And all around the gulls
scolded a lament 
as seals flapped aimlessly,
trying to raise a swell. 
With cormorants stranded on a rock 
as poised as a question mark,
while crabs scuttled everyway
as if dancing on hot plates,
becoming the uncovered prey 
of seabirds and small boys....

Over in a shallow glade by the river she waited,
Cormorants gliding silently.
In the embankment bed she lay.
Twisted isles swept furiously,
Dead fish shallowed pools beneath the old red bridge.
Above a sky in black, dirt filled.
At night she listened carefully, moved in silence.
The span of wings touched her heart.
At night she fell to whispers, 
exclusive lights in a harbor born....

A pair of brown grey 
cormorants sit bobbing on 
perky swells
Then ploink they disappear to 
probe
The Hudson's murky hell.  

Down in Dante's numbered 
rings
They swim blinded by pollution
In the shadow of towering 
testaments
To technological evolution. 

I could not imagine there being 
life
In a river so deathly still
Til up they popped with puffed 
up throats
To swallow a tasty kill....

        crashing sounds on the granite rocks
      water rising, filling up nearby caves
        winds raise nearby boat docks
  to fall and crumble in pieces into the sea
  as the seagulls and cormorants on the docks flee 
    to the seawater to swim free
  waves crash on granite rocks as sea debris engraves

Wales with its dragons

to build a much better world

We stroll ocean sand beach as waves come toward us.
Sea brakes, crashing on shore; wind's keen, birds seen now.
Feet feel water rush by - it's cold, a nice plus!
Great size cormorants sate their greed upon scow.
Seascape shows pier through day's half light, kept somehow.
Rails hold places where lines drop bait far downward.
Boats ply slowly across the sea's fog hazed brow.
Fine brave surfers catch waves where no man sees guard....

Clear blue sky and cool winds blow
waves pouring in and splashing high
toppling over  jetted rocks
ripples mellow out and gently flow 

Gulls soaring low, cormorants streaming by
distant sail boat tackling the rising tides
white caps roll, fast and furious
tangling seaweed strewn where barnacles lie 

the ocean’s voyage does not cease  
waves are traveling with a sounding roar 
this vista plants a profound wonder
in my mind this is absolute peace...
