A Baffled Boy
Silent and puzzled, even when a little boy, I remember the monsignor after every Sunday sermon have us pray for peace, as contending against war; a peace that rarely came or lasted prayers that were rarely answered.

Premium Member When I Was Small
I spied an ant beneath a kitchen sink
and I remembered as he made me think
about that steely silent battle of wills,
under a wee mushroom, below its gills,
when I was a hopeful, contending drone
competing for the queen upon her throne.

Premium Member Of Tragedy She Would Not Write
     Of imagery in yonder meadow
       she had much to say
     from daffodils on rolling hills
       to ivy covered fences

Yet of tragedy she would not write
        of carnivores contending
for the hoof of a femme fatale
~ She could not bear the ending

Hind Forest
One side of a small fork
On an elongated stone chair
The day goes by

petals
broken branches
defoliation
Snowflakes
Contending with the wind and the clouds
sometimes
Families with sore hind leg
Sit around it
spend one afternoon

Everyone's
stone chair remains and is carved
It's just years....

Begotten
Conceiving virtue's mending,
spells the view
in careful words unending,
seeing you!

The bridgework, as a blending
links we two
the road, so apprehending
is askew!

My eyes once gloved in blindness,
find renew
and send these fingers rampart,
to remove -

Hypocrisies contending,
yea uncouth -
The sight of you begotten
....seems all truth!...

Steelers Fans
I'm sorry for the Steelers fans
(My sister and her spouse)
For disappointment must now rule
Their beings and their house.

The Packers fans are sad as well,
So close but no cigar,
A pity to be unsuccessful
Having come so far.

I really couldn't care which teams
Are Super Bowl contending,
But I'm delighted that the
Football season will be ending!...

Premium Member The Fireworks Have Begun
    An angel and a devil
      work me over every morn
    Contending for ownership
       to neither (am I) forsworn

    I tell myself I won’t succumb
to the devil, that old bum
Then he takes down the angel
      The fireworks have begun …

In the end, it’s MY will versus MY won’t
They’re mere illusions by my throne

Contending For Truth
CONTENDING FOR TRUTH

 Sola Gratia Means Grace Alone
   Sola Fide Means Faith Alone

      Therefore Solafidaism !!

O tears drip down my sunken cheek
     so sullen and must speak
when I hear Christ's Chickadee's squeak
as tho He would take "their Prize"
as tho they may not "ev'r Rise"
due to somehuman fault
or to some sin without or within
as tho they can nev'r again begin...

Premium Member Winter
Am I but the stirring of a seasoned stew
The madness of a game that summer threw

Hard edge of a canyon wall at dawn
Towering above a trembling, speckled fawn

Must I be a raging lion or timid lamb
Contending for the prize of also ran

As I must outduel Winter’s feigned chagrin
Until it screams OK, all right, you win

So bear with me and kiss me as I go
And take with me the curse of bearded snow

Electronic devices contending
  Wizard-like gurus pretending

Media noise unrelenting
   Massive armament-spending
Extremism transcending
   Holocausts never ending

How much better now, our enlightened Life --

Premium Member Crossing the Bridge Over Troubled Waters
When life's over and we're done
We are called, we have no voice
Crossing is for everyone
We must go, we have no choice
The waters may be dark and deep
When crossing to other side
Those we've left may moan and weep
Contending with the changing tide
Their time will come, it could be soon
The bridge is there for crossing o'er
No longer see the Sun and Moon
Life's travels end on distant shore
There should be joy to end the race
Takes death to gaze on Jesus' face...

Premium Member Tormentors
Hatred comes in many a grade.
Divergent backgrounds will leave some swayed.
Aggressors will rarely share the facts.
They hide and trawl and wait to attack.
Kindness is not found in their hearts.
Antipathy and malice tears them apart.
They look around for power to gain.
Depraved contending is now their game.
Rogues will come and rogues will go.
Sadistic victimizing is now their goal.
Awfully imply they test our decrees.
These fainthearted consignments are never pleased....
