Scratchy polyester pants
plucked from the bottom rack.
Wrinkled plaid shirts
for veiling blood, sweat, and dirt
A clip-on tie purchased on the cheap
for a rose garden wedding
destined for the weeds.
Faux leather- funeral shoes
(Like wide-mouthed baby birds)
screaming for a flighty mother
to gift them a half-chewed worm.
Surely, you look so innocent
Dazed in those big brown eyes,
Silky soft velvety nose:
Endearing instinctive charm.
Warmth, as I cushion my hand
Over the shiny black armour,
Cuddle you closer to the heart:
Or feel me box your ears for you.
But for now, let me boast you,
Over my checkered shirt in envy;
Clinging paws, vibrant, ever watchful:
Holding on, steadfast in love.
