Pulse - Repost - Love Poem For Ottawa
In the middle
In the midst
Of this bureaucratic
Heart
Pumping
Paper
Ideas
The pulse
Of this great nation
In the middle
In the midst
Of me
Circa 2005
Ottawa born and raised. I was a bicycle courier here for twenty years, developing a very special affinity for my city, my community, and my country....

Quoting Daddy
"I'm going out west where
the eagles build their nest". A.J. Johnson
He must have wanted to follow the eagles.
He was born and raised in the south and
often stated that he was going out west.
In a way, his dream came true through me.
I went and lived in the west for over
40 years, but daddy never did.

Friday and the Weekend
It always rains on Friday
Its off to the Care Home
with wafer thin biscuits
for delicate teeth
and a bag of cheese and onions
At the corner shop
some commonal drinkers
start early
2 cans of extra Strong
Born and raised for Les Weekend
like shooting arrows in the park
Versions of redemption
keeping busier than yesterday...

The Unspoken Truth
Women in my family
Born and raised in patriarchy
Sentenced to bitterness
Speaking less to apologies.
Women in my family
Silenced from a tender age
Loud in ignorance
No one is up for the change.
Women in my family
I wish they could see
Homophobia is a disease
They should quit judging me.

Outside the Box
He farmed because farming is what he knew; but a farmer
was not who he was, because he had other money-making
businesses for himself and his family. What he knew and the
'box in which he was born and raised' were not big enough for him,
nor did they define him. My father, entrepreneur at heart, outside the box.

A Place Called Home
Born and raised in the streets of Soweto
Ndofaya, kasi lama kasi is what i call it
Grew up in search for gold
all i found was coal
A shack for a house but it was home
The streets made you wise
the hustle put food on the table
Growth was far from reach
wisdom was key
knowledge guaranteed a future
If only i learned to combine the two
i would have found gold
Mash Rams...

Texas
I was born and raised in Texas,
it is the place I call home
I do not think I will ever leave
This is where I roam.
Our state flower is a blue bonnet,
the "Mockingbird", is our bird
We sing "Texas our Texas"
the prettiest Athem heard.
We do have our many faults,
like any other state
but we love this place called home
and to it, we relate....

Roman Catholic Returns
I have a tremendous fear,
It causes my shoulders a great burden,
A burden of flame and eternity,
Tomorrow I return,
Walk through the commanding doors-
Doors to the Roman Catholic Church,
Therein I was born and raised,
As I reached my coming of age I fled,
I denounced all that the church was,
I stand here now,
Proclaiming myself to be a fool,
I pray the faith welcomes their sheep with open arms....

Only Love
I want to rest my self in the sky
i want to know why it felt better than the ground
where all i can see is tears and despair
take me on a ride
far away from the crowd
it begins to hurt my mind
when peace is barely to find
we were born and raised in the name of love
though the world is tricky
and traps for all the broken hearted
but we won't give up on it
won't give up for love
the only way to save this world
it's only love...

A Southern Lady
There is a lady I know
She is not considered slow
She is my sister Lex,
She is no hex to me
Southern born and Southern raised,
She is a true Southern Lady
Born and raised in NC,
As country as can be
She is rough and tough and loveable as can be,
You couldn't touch her with a 10-foot beam
She is as kind and loved as there can be
She is often compared to honey from a bee
She is as slick as grass in July,
Golly oh me, how lucky can I be?...

A Wonderful 39 Years
A WONDERFUL 39 YEARS
My anniversary is coming soon.
39 years is the 27th.day of June.
Years filled with laughter and tears.
Memories that I will hold so dear.
Sometimes were good sometimes were bad.
I was a wife and a mom he was a husband and a dad.
Not to many marriages last this long.
Our love between us has always stayed strong.
Life was hard but children were born and raised.
Good times is why our Lord is praised.

Indignant
i tried to think it was your fault
for feeling the way you do
i thought you could appreciate
a part of me who isn't you
but you called me weird
and talked from fear
cause of what you thought
everyone else might do
i'm sorry i was born and raised
with a different point of view
and i'm sorry no one will ever like me
the same way they like you
i understand the feelings you have
about the things i do
but the more you hate of me what you lack
the less i appreciate you...

English Yellow Rose
Born and raised in the middle of Bristol,
a yellow rose grew up strong but wistful.
In the middle of an English garden she grew up.
Amongst the grass, not far from a country club.
Soon in life she found herself alone, with her troubles walking around on her own.
She stood up in that garden
with a new rosebud to feed,
She had to show her spines,
the other face to be harden.
That English yellow rose needs to be cut from her roots
to keep on flourishing again
in a new beginning....

The Statue of Liberty
How lovely she stands on
Ellis Island in New York City
Raised is her torch to inspire
Freedom and liberty
Given to the U.S by France
Hoping for a chance
Because of the American Revolution
For friendship was the resolution
In recognition we all be one
Ever get a chance to take a trip
Go see this wonderful statue that represents
Freedom democracy and international friendship
was born and raised in NY left to a small town
will rewrite this to enter contest I LOVE AND MISS NY...
