They spent many happy years of married life,
hard of hearing he heard the shout of his wife.
She once told buy potato,
he bought bagful tomato,
found himself sunk in the sizzling soup of strife.
dawn’s
cheery
red cherries
by the bagful
cheek by jowl they munch
dangling the stem, spitting
out crunchy seeds (tooth breakers)
channelling the healing power
chalking up juicy rufescent bites
at dusk, couple’s cheering cerise cabernet
Where a bargain is not a play on words;
I grip the cart eager to seek discounted goods,
Beautifully arranged on tin shelves.
Smiles around every corner;
Down every aisle a satisfied person.
A deal on every item, leaving the store by the bagful.
A much needed change of pace;
Weaving up and down the unforgettable
Joy that is the dollar store.
Back from China when Trump feels all but bust,
‘Lousy jet lag, would my body adjust?’
Yes sir, it no doubt will,
His yes men did so feel,
‘And confidence? Would it regain old trust?’
So saying, deep he sank
Unto desk feeling lank…
His MAGA dream gathering further rust.
