When Abba wowed the audience:
the only part I've ever seen!
Oh, and the bearded lady who
(I think) was a drag queen.
Convincing myself of my own importance
—I became an audience of one

Truth needs no audience
or vows of acceptance
The eagle flies highest

Our minister, Mr. Gulay
Has an interesting sermon today
But, the choir is yawning
And the audience is sleeping!
Uncertain the journey,
Unsure which way to turn
Jump, dig, swim, burn,
Failure needs no witness,
The audience gathers anyway.

Once I thought I made a joke.
The audience blinked.
I tried to explain it.
The audience stiffened up.
That's my joke on my joke!
A public coward
who fears to talk
but wraps words
with a forest
of beautiful noise
to deceive audience
that he/she is terrific
I pushed
to take the stage
past my talents merit
to an audience
of silence
and stares
icicles
to harpoon my heart
for daring.
heart, jugular notch and third eye
have chosen to dance today
they perform for an audience of one
soul delights at the divine play
Sleep is a god that grows after day,
And which the high and low,
Eyes shut must fall and deadly obey:
How it is an audience-free show!
Onlookers stamp and shriek for blood
Wanting gruesome
Hoping for death
Gladiators face off
Not wanting to disappoint thrill seekers
Echo
chorus
vibration
sound
stage
boom
audience
rapture
fervor
fire
feeling
abound
somewhere
time
moment
capture
There's no safety net
For the heights I have to reach
To convince your mind
I should have an audience,
My heart face to face with yours
The drum drummed
The guitar strummed
The trombone oom pah pah'd
The audience clapped
Because they were rapt
And some called out Hurrah
ziggy stardust struts- -
david bowie peers out
at the audience
written for Cyndi’s contest, with my very best wishes for David and Geraldine
A beautiful face but
Dancing is not good
and it stuns onlookers
She gains confidence
Arrests the audience
But nothing surprises
Upon the first strains
The entire audience stands...
Sing Hallelujah!!
(Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus"...King George II started this tradition)
michael kissed me
he pulled the love from me
beneath a thousand shing eyes
our audience agreed
of our first love
two hearts emerging
from untrod paths
the contortionist
makes audience cringe and cheer...

I chaired the meeting
a difficult audience it was
I saw in the attendance
fragments of husbands
foliage of broken wives
and little bits of pupils
Writing for confirmation,
all words now zero-sum
As each returns, my ears embrace,
—an audience of one
(Villanova Pennsylvania: June, 2017)
There once was a lad named Nate
Who in the spelling bee did participate
But the audience did blush
As poor Nate got flush
After failing to spell constipate
