The Parolee
By Angeline Star

The ad stated that
the prospective employee
should have the ability
to prepare and serve food samples
using small appliances such as
microwaves, fryers, skillets, coffee makers
and knives.

He had a background
with knives....

Wedding Bin Blues
We've got the wedding bin blues,
Reception Centres should have been sued,
Plastic chicken and phony food,
"Why did you marry me?" we rued,
This is the first wives' club,
Half were in the pudding club,
The orange appliances survived,
Half the exes aren't alive,
Reception Centres should have been sued,
We've got the wedding bin blues!!...

Friendship Threshold
I see you from far away
You’re that girl from Steve’s party
All I know about you
You get really drunk
All you know about me
Up to speculation
We approach each other
Fumble with appliances
I put in my headphones
You look at your phone
We have sunken to a lower connection
‘No hello acquaintances’
Labeled
And
Stamped
We go our separate ways...

Premium Member Morning Splendour

The bamboo shades.
Fresh oranges just squeezed.
Neatly hung towels right in place,
Chrome on all appliances glistening.
Beige basket for mail.
That darling window that allows God's sunshine in.
The resplendent shining microwave.
And of course the cat on her rug.
Foevergreen eyes, looking up.
Mom on the her knees, giving a hug.

   against floods, wars, tornadoes earthquakes
   glacier-melt, cyclones, asteroids, meteors
   avalanches, mudslides, volcanoes, air and
   seat travel...

Premium Member The Tantrum
Old man wind pulled back the ocean waters and funneled them into his watering can; sprinkled them across the state; over-watering every garden in sight. A flood, six inches of water invaded my basement; a three inch wading hole in the street and a fortune in appliances and furniture was lost. Afterwards he painted a rainbow in a cloudy sky and started over again. His tantrum lasted for two weeks.

Premium Member The Way Things Really Were
O, the nights we couldn't stop sweating
the porch no cooler than our rooms
Enervated, we drove down to the lake
where 'shore patrol' lowered the boom

All those appliances that too often failed
jalopies that wouldn't start in the cold
Lights flickering with each drop of rain
all those folks who at 50 were old

Yet this is not what we choose to remember
'coz memory, thank God, is selective
If not, who would ever reminisce
over things as they were ~ so defective...
