Premium MemberCharlie Sheepdog Has a Scare

Shetland Sheepdog Charlie jumped high in the air
Sheep he could handle, but this creature was unfair
As far as he knew it was an alien or a creature from far away
I was lucky to have my camera that day

I wish now I had put it on video, for it was a hilarious sight
Charlie ran off and hid, almost into the night
The mouse had been scared too, but he was braver now
He scuttled in the barn and hid under the cow

My children were going to call Charlie names like Scaredy Cat
I told them this would hurt him, so please don’t do that
One of them wanted to keep the mouse in his room.
I scooted the creature out of the barn with a broom.

SEPTEMBER FALLS

Sunlight dictates our days somehow
Evenings speak of duvets now
People begin to cough or sneeze
Trees start to dread each single breeze
E-type says there’s nowhere to park
Mornings complain about the dark
Blackberries doubt that they’ll get picked
English sheepdog begs for a stick
Radio talks of candidates
Fake news drowns out any debate
Autumn colours each working day
Leaves demand to be swept away
Last week’s paper knew it was true
September would remember you.

Premium MemberA Much Missed Sheepdog

An old lady in Frankfort, Kentucky
still pines for her late sheepdog Bucky
After twenty-two years
in her dreams he appears
Now they both feel elated and lucky

Premium MemberSheepdog

Heard an old Beatles song the other day and it stayed on my mind, mixed with a little insomnia. The following leaked out.
.
“Echoes of Midnight Sheepdog Call”
.
Hey little lost sheepdog,
You better find your way back home.
Little lost sheepdog,
You’ve been on the run too long.
The sun is sinking low,
And the air is growing cold.
Little lost sheepdog,
Are you feeling all alone?
I know you’re not afraid of the big bad wolf.
You never even gave him a second look.
He’s hiding in sheep’s clothing,
Blending with the flock down by the brook.
The flock has been without you for so long.
They don’t know when you left or where you’ve gone.
Or if you’re by chance ever coming home.
The wolf has convinced them that they’re oh so very strong.
He’s been a liar all along.
Little lost sheepdog you’re needed back at home.
The Shepherd,
Is calling you again.
You can talk to Him.
You can talk to Him.
Don’t be the sheepdog, standing in the rain.
Bulldog. You’re doing it again?
Bulldog. You’re doing it again.

Premium MemberSheepdog Trials

I saw a note pinned up today
that sheepdog trials are underway
I thought, at last, there's justice for the flock
I imagined my fine elocution
as witness for the prosecution
denouncing deeds by doggies in the dock.

Two-leggies might not have the smarts
to see through arcane canine arts
and arrogantly think they are in charge
They're suckered to the masterplan,
believe the wolves are tamed by man,
when really they are free to roam at large.

In court we sheep will have our day
and see the wolves all locked away,
and finally they'll throw away the key;
then celebrate in field and dale;
in years to come they'll tell the tale
of how the woolly ones became the free.
