Mentor of great worth; that is Sir Milton* to me
Imparting so well his poetic influence
Leading my muse to soar high since from him I learned---
Testifying of his faith, he penned with God’s truths
Optimizing best to share, his poems do offer
Nourishing inspiration that glows beyond now.
Verse in Acrostic
*Sir Milton is now with the Lord. Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.

Love that is alive and thrills
Inspiration from the heart and soul
Feelings warming when there are chills
Encouragement to reach the goal
Soft and sensual, lights from within
Music that whispers through the azure skies
Yearnings that help us know where to begin
Stars that brighten lives with a blessed surprise
Truths expressed by brilliant hues of hope
Eternal embraces that enliven and enlighten
Reflections on the many ways we can cope
Insight into the spirits which will brighten
Enlivening breaths through the dance of life
Senses that bless and caress without any strife

Witches, warlocks, ghouls and ghosts.
Vampires, veins, Halloween hosts.
Black cats, broomsticks, magic and more
Trick-or-treating with the witch next door.
Potions, powders, apple bobbing too
Your mask is awesome. Who are you?
Mystic, seer, prophetess, gypsy, guru,
Shaman, pirate, Dracula, Cookie Monster Blue.
October beggars follow the herd.
Is that Grover and happy Big Bird?
Great night for aliens to land in town.
They will fit right in, for miles around.
Just grab a bag as they approach me.
I hand them out, one, two. and three.
They are amazed, fitting in right away.
They learn Trick-or-Treat pretty fast to say.
Three years ago sad night because my best friend drowned.
I feel badly on Halloween because he is not around.
Milky Ways, Babe Ruths, Hershey bars too.
Watch out! My cousin Pete just threw up on my shoe.
The moon is full, yellow, bright, winking at us.
The aliens give it no attention, not a bit of fuss.
The sky has turned into a brilliant orange hue.
I love October thirty—first, how about you?

Line after line I have
Ingested your poems
Navigating their
Emotions and imagery
Gravitating words towards meaning
And
Unearthing
Truths
Hidden and buried under
Illusions that
Enshroud
Reality

Inner eye now keenly observes obscure corners. There’s
No fooling this steely auditor.
Truths smothered should now be spoken. No more of those
Rhetoric excuses and aspersions.
Out in the open with guilt and confession. I can’t
Shy away anymore from my vices and quirks.
Purging my innards of external stimuli while I
Explain my actions wrapped in a cocoon of myself.
Controlling my mind from wandering distant valleys and oceans, I’m simply
Trusting the unbiased principles imbibed in childhood to be my guide.
Ignoring the urge to cheat and pass with flying colors this
One moral exam I inflict on myself to
Nurture and cleanse my soul.

She was a girl named Ruth,
who had dreams and ambitious from youth.
Then she met a rascal of a boy,
who treated her as if she were a toy.
'Ours is a love from on high',
the sweet mouthed chap said with a lie
The naive Ruth was only beaming with smile.
And she was determined to go with this guy another mile.
'A little touch and some kissing,
will do me no harm', she was musing.
And now she couldn't stop the dangerous ride,
on this stormy sea with deadly tide.
This same Ruth is in all girls that are foolish,
who often fall preys of mean men that are brutish.
These Ruths only come to their senses
when there are no defences.

Soda pop and gum drops
A river full, so sweet
To be that child I once was
All that candy, I would eat
Not worry about a cavity,
the dentist or my skin
Just concerned with getting more
And filling it within
A jawbreaker, some nonpareils
Bazookas and candy dots
Sour apples and baby ruths
Oh I love it all a lot
