Hopin' and flyin' high
Still somethin' was amiss,
Just you know why ...
It had to end like this
Not fade away a shining star
With three million records sold,
Yet, silent fell his guitar ...
And, glasses rest infold
A sound never to be heard
Soon after that final show,
Boy, give us a clue, a word
Maybe one day we'll know
What happened that dark night
Over a quiet field of corn,
Lost in a flurry of white ...
Then found early the next morn
Ever altered by what he gave
Things change and time flies,
Rock n' roll, rant and rave
And still the music never dies.

Louhi Louhi, me gotta go
Louhi Louhi, me gotta go.
Fine little demoness waits for me
Me sail across Pohjola Sea
Me sail dat ship all alone
I never think I go back home.
Oh Louhi Louhi, oh behbee now, me gotta go
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Louhi Louhi, me gotta go.
Three nights and days me sail that sea
Me thinks of Louhi constantly
An on de ship I dream she dare
I smell the sulphur in her hair.
Ohhhh Louhi Louhi, oh no, me gotta go
Yah yah yah yah yah yah
Louhi Louhi, ye mama now, me gotta go
I say, me gotta go.

Pickled okra, pickled beets
Pickled corn and pickled beans
Of all the pickles that I see
Cucumber pickles are the best
Dancers, players, pickles
Celebrating, showing their
Vinegar tails, their garlic
Smells – dill with a zest
All the aspects of becoming
A pickle worthy of munching
A pickle devoured by the ones
Who pick these pickles
From the depths of the jar
Where they linger, awaiting
The chomping away, the day
When they make their way
To the stomach, consumed
By the appetite of a soul
Who knows that as pickles go
This is the one who has found
Its way to the final round
With visions of vinegar seas
It says its last goodbye to me
The hands who picked it
Then flavored it with vinegar
Awaiting this moment, this time
When it would find the last sign
That it was the beloved pickle
Who would forever be considered
- The king of every other pickle –
This is the rock n’ roll pickle party!

Missy, Suave Donnie,
and sweet Suzi Q.
Saw a rock concert,
in Seventy-Two,
No need to bother.
it was the Guess-Who.
You heard of those Dude's
They Jammed Saskatoon.
Well, they had No Time,
To be Undun.
When American Woman,
Went number One.
And they ran out of Sugar,
to play late at night.
So, they joined Mother Nature,
in Rock-N- Roll Style.
Missy, Suave Donnie,
and Sweet Suzi Q.
went to a concert,
on May Twenty-Two,
You heard of that band,
It was The Guess-Who.
And they Rocked Seattle,
In Seventy-Two.

The river rolled over the rocks
Moving in a spirited motion
Rock n roll through the valley
The mountains danced above

The king
Not a royal,
Yet he was a king,
Rocking and rolling,
You sang,
Black hair, blue eyes and that quiff,
Gyrating pelvis, those moving legs,
The oldies not keen,
Girls going wild plus the odd boy too,
The voice of a god, so good looking,
He was an actor to,
Died way to young,
Will always be known,
The King of rock and roll.

(1943-2003)
He was a renegade.
He was a rebel all his days.
Then something broke inside. And I, I --
I cried and cried when Warren died.

Our time to spin round the world,
Back to rock n' roll!
Springtime leach's wings speak a lot
Back to rock n' roll
I've been to Mars still never let hopes
In flyin' around the world
Our time to spin round the world,
Back to rock n' roll
Fistful figurative piece of word
Back to rock n' roll
Riverside fresh, beaches of green
Really melodic peaches of leaves
Dancin' along, ready for any brawl
Back to rock n' roll
Time soon turns over
No more time to do things slower
Our time to spin round the world,
Back to rock n' roll
Seaside salty, beaches of sand
Really melancholic shrieks of leaves
Singin' all day in a lot of woes,
Back to rock n' roll
Our time to spin round the world,
Back to rock n' roll!
Autumn-time its morbid limbs alone
In silence beg for more
Our time to spin round the world,
Back to rock n' roll
Fistful figurative piece of word
Back to rock n' roll

Dancing and hopping in a robin-like way
The medium sized bird gives happiness a swift play
I watch him in wonder, loving his tweet tweet tweet
He looks like a rock-and-roll dancer, he’s simply up beat.
The song from my childhood comes quickly to mind
As I see this darling birdie, he is so clever and kind.
Rock’n’Robbin sung in 1957 by the keen Bobby Day.
The branch is bobbing in time with this robin at play!

Without a break they launched into their next song, one that sang about war in the sky and described old flying machines that didn’t exist anymore. Angie waved her hands around like a devil and on long song notes held out her hands
and closed her eyes, dreaming of what her song described. Nodding her head in rhythm to Ronnie’s thundering bass guitar, she kept her eyes shut as the song thudded through a long instrumental bit until her chorus kicked in. She went
crazy, dancing over the stage and Sunny let rip in a wicked guitar solo that had the audience dancing and moving around like fish out of water. On and on the music went.

Her band was made up of many cool members. Cecil on drums; he wore a cut down decades old Sisters of Mercy t-shirt bought from Jason, old blue jeans and scuffed boots. Jason noticed this and elbowed Craig in the ribs and drunkenly
grinned to his mate, “That’ll do wonders for my business!” On bass was Ronnie. A full-length leather jacket made him look like an undertaker. Underneath he wore nothing but leather hot pants. Boys and girls alike loved this and thought he looked a million dollars. Then there was guitarist Sunny wearing his studded
motorbike jacket with the picture of a speeding snail painted on the back (this was Sandra’s handiwork, she was too busy making love to a random lad she had picked up to notice). Sunny had black leather combat trousers on and massive
gothic boots with chrome toecaps that glittered in the light. Finally there was Snot the keyboard player, he had a plain white t-shirt on and black leather jeans backed up by combat boots.

The first band was due to come on stage in ten minutes. The club was filling up with people wanting to get a good seat. Jason and Craig each bought three drinks and sat at a small round table. They quietly discussed the business of
trading coins and music. Jason wore an old All About Eve 1989 tour t-shirt that was in surprisingly good condition. He only wore it to gigs and on special occasions. It matched his black Levi jeans and custom made cowboy boots. Craig
had a long black leather jacket on, black combat trousers, a black denim shirt and old German combat boots, backed up with lots of silver and amber jewellery. Both looked up and saw Rolo and Denise walk into the bar, wave greetings they returned and continued their conversation.

They stormed through their set that was made up of songs each ten minutes long - they did just two! What a musical journey it was. Fast aggressive heavy
music the quickest human beings could play and then slow monotonous rhythms that lulled the audience to sleep, followed up by loud aggressive music to wake them up. Song lyrics of trolls, witches, wizards, mysterious deep lakes, twilight
skies and moody moons. After their set they gave out a number of free music discs to spread their awe-inspiring music.

I've reached beyond the age of RPM records
youthful addiction
My forty-fives tilt in a corner of the basement,
leaning tower of teenage angst,
Wrapped now in decades of neglect.
Why can't I dispose of you?
Clutter crime of nostalgia's pull
This craving for rock 'n roll renegades,
singers of weed-garden life
punishers of social rules
Ageless idols of grainy texture
in fraying fabrics, tie dyed
So many odes to love, longing, anger
Snippets of R n' R once bleeding from open windows,
like wanderers dancing in darkness
Charged rhythm once labelled
force of evil,
Musical clout like tattered boxing gloves
Limitless bliss to unstuck youth
Something to stagger to,
life's nimble recollection,
a secret world
of cherished entry
Implacable lyrics
that preserve themselves
in all that spins
(Poem revised July 2020 with 2 new stanzas added, along with a title change.)
