i create stanzas of excuses moonlighting as poems
i am an unfinished basements salesman specializing in repetitive wolf tickets
maybe i will grab my starlight's forest green furry bathrobe and sleep in front of the orthopedic doctor's door
i am confused right now and i am unable to be able
i am a right handed pitcher of habitual lies in a dry desert
i am a left handed denialologist with only disorted images on the obvious picture
maybe i will borrow my lady's always warm brain and go to the wall of her primary doctor and knock some sense into myself until opening hours
The Mets figured they already had a pitching ace.
They badly needed a competent man to play third base.
A righty and a lefty were considered better than dependable.
The management considered another right-handed pitcher expendable.
The Amazin’ Mets felt they had minor league talent galore.
After the win in ‘69, they were gunning for one more.
For this expendable right-hander, a converted shortstop the Mets would get.
This was a deal the front office and fans would regret.
The outcome of this done deal proved to be a shame.
That expendable right-hander went on to the Hall of Fame.
Fans were calling the late John Quinn a clown.
For what he did, they wanted to run him out of town.
He traded away right handed pitcher Rick Wise.
Rick was considered the Phillies top prize.
He led the team in wins during the season.
His pitching a no-hitter was another reason.
Quinn sent him to the Cardinals for Steve Carlton.
Well, this was later called Philadelphia’s best trade.
Phillies fans were so glad the trade was made.
Four Cy Young Awards for Carlton came later.
Among left handed pitchers, few were greater.
With over three hundred wins, he made himself a name.
Steve earned enshrinement into the Hall of Fame.
