Early in the summer
my classmates and I gathered outside
for a rededication ceremony.
A priest blessed a new bench
and we promised we would
find and replace a memorial stone
while
a younger class
who embraced their youth
shouted and laughed
running in and out
of the high school—
theirs for the weekend.

Lord Jesus, I am on bended knee
I have come to You with my plea
My heart is filled with much sadness
Lord, I'm confused with great distress
Father of my father, I pray unto Thee
to open my eyes and heart so I may see
the lighted path to follow my destiny
I need rededication of my faith and soul
to allow my entire being to become whole
and to save me from falling into Satan's hellhole
Lord Jesus, I pray that You will hear my plea
so I may spend with You, in Heaven for an eternity
Praise be unto You, my Lord Jesus and Savior
Amen

something in the air called loneliness
makes me do things that are disguised
as outlets
my heart does the thinking for my brain
and the brain does the beating for my
heart
thinking that it is all a recipe for renovation
is actually a blueprint for surefire disaster
i laugh at my own jokes as i lie to myself
knowing that something is wrong and that
the pain is obviously there
something starts to fall as i imagine a hand
that i so long to hold and the beauty that i
so yearn to see
puzzles in my mind cannot be put together
in any type of strategic way and board games
in my heart can never be won in any type of
masterful fashion
knowing this, i just go on with my head held high
trying to mask the raging sorrow that i feel for
myself
repetition is like a pill you intentionally take after the
expiration date's expiration
seduction is like a laxative that starts working in the heart
of a long-awaited exploration
i wish i could christen myself at my own rededication, but a
voice ever so unhealthy for me continuously asserts its
persistence to give me medication
unfocused with no hint of even a smidgen of a goal, i kindly
follow blindly....

The student wasn't doing well,
his grades were really bad!
His father looked him in the eye,
and said, "son, dammit I'm mad"!
"You have such great potential,
it's a shame to see you fail!
If you rededicate yourself,
I know you will prevail"!
So he changed his study habits,
and to himself, avowed,
to attain a higher level,
and make his parents proud!
So he had to change his attitude,
to accomplish such a deed,
and with the faith his parents showed in him,
he was able to succeed!
