After School

While they are waiting downstairs- I write.
While they are patient- I write.
While they are angry and bored- I write.
My parents weren’t about to leave without me.
I put my pen in my bag.
I could sleep on the car ride to school.
My mom would always talk about joining a club.
But when school is over, my bag is zipped for the night.
I never do homework after school.
I do it in the morning, instead.
I’m still late for bed anyway.
Then I’m late for school all over.
My mom says I should join a writer’s club.
But where would I find the time?
