In Good Stead

On the first part of the journey,
I’m chewing nice toasty bread
all my toys down below me,
dog’s ripping them to shreds
This new world’s a mixture of fun,
stitched together between dread
And with happy ever after endings,
hard to see any troubles ahead

Days appear to get longer,
empty space grows and spreads
Old people I know disappearing,
as monoliths pop up instead
Time for a proper education,
my hands are swollen and red
Teacher beats me badly each day,
says be better if I never bred

Carpet frays beneath my feet,
so I decide to follow the thread
path’s becoming ever clearer,
like all halfwits I’m easily led
And the priest keeps on rocking,
I think he’s glad Elvis is dead
Dad shouts your getting a job,
lazy bastard get out of bed

In the abattoir each morning,
I spilt blood til my fingers bled
DANGER! sign above the kill box
no way the cow’s could’ve read
On my way home at twilight,
a bomb goes off inside my head
Stroke of luck your right vision’s left,
the optimistic doctors said

Time heals all except aging,
chairs turn into curved sleds
Rocking away on the porch now
unaware about being misled
But I don’t care cos I’m happy,
a side effect of miracle meds
Sublingual strips, work wonders,
journey’s over, again spoon fed
