Call and Response Poetry Spares

I quite enjoyed writing these two line poems for the Bantu contest - the idea of the call and response with two different statements but the same sensory response to each line. A bit like a game of Mallets Mallet (for those that remember the 1980s/1990s word association game for children :)

So here are the spare ones I didn't enter

Sparkling spider web on the branches
The sun in my eyes

The howl of the wolf
The descent into dreams

Ladybird on the stem
Polka dot dress

Star strewn night sky
Visits from dearly departed

Wind whips and wails
Busy head can't keep up

Newly planted trees
My children's children's shade

Pain from a sprained ankle
Stretched elastic

Tired eyes closing
Graceful birds fly overhead

Splay fingers of hand
Tree root steps on hillside

Plates stacked for washing
Clock has stopped

Chairs in disarray
Fence fallen down

Empty boxes of cereal
Echoes in the arches

Swing as high as the sky
Daisy chain falls to the ground

Swim to the shore
Reach for your hand

Drink from the bottle
Tilt head back and laugh

Chandelier above me
The tears of the stoic

A warm breeze
A faded memory

Distant thunder rumbles
Cooking pot needs turning down

Coat hanger absent of clothes
Collar bone awaiting necklace

Mirror faces the wall, no reflection
Cry out in empty house

Long grass on third dry day
Feathers float to earth

Fractals on puddles
Child's drawings

Old newspapers folded and stacked
First pancake on Shrove Tuesday

Handlebars of bicycle
Jolt in dreams first moment

Wallpaper repeating pattern
Scanning the crowd for familiar face

Boot stuck in the mud
Indecision

Wind whistling in trees
Chatter before the show starts

Spotting a door ajar
Your name heard on the breeze

Diving into a pool
The last moments of a nightmare

Broken piece of tree bark
Hair tangled from the pool

Wearing new shoes
Being amongst back stabbers

A pot of cold custard
Remembering a mistake

Washing your hands
Stones at the base of a waterfall

Opening a tin
A lurch in your stomach from a bad memory

Walking on new carpet with bare feet
Hesitation choosing a cake

Smoke from a chimney
November 6th

Tweeting birds in the morning
Finishing a payphone conversation before the beep

Creating a hashtag
Writing a Bantu

Viewing a sunset
Hearing you got the grades

Viewing a sculpture
Hands placed on shoulders

Viewing a new painting you like
Magic carpet ride

Chopping onions
Dashing for the train

Opening a pistachio nut
Putting on the snitch (door lock)
