A Pessimist

A man has been divinely blessed
With comfort and riches beyond his thoughts’ control
But is there any point in all this
If nobody will share his smiles, if any at all?
The moment he pulled his curtains to one side,
His room was on one side, and the world was on one side
He shares pieces of himself to people with pride,
And forgets to treasure a piece for himself alongside

He speaks to many yet not a friend is there,
Nobody with whom secrets share
Words are said but disappear in the air
He is always present, but no one will care
He wears a broken mask on his face, hiding worries
Behind happiness that is fake
And tells people that he is okay
Doing them a favour, for their time’s sake

Wealth prevails, as we have been taught
He walks on a path of gold,
On his head a crown
Yet the path is so lonely,
So empty that he frowns
And he looks over to his right
A path so hideous and rundown
On it is a poor person, who feels loved by everyone around
So they have riches greater
Than he has ever found

He resides in a cave with no light
No direction and nobody in sight
So many people yet no human
And all alone he feels fright
He is a quiet failure
With a dream too distant to touch
He chases the echo of what he could be
But it always feels like too much

He looks for belonging in the city
Like people look for peace
And discovered from this
That time only lets the longing increase
Then his soul got tired,
And he sat under a shade,
Yet his legs walked off, searching
And led him astray

This fire of sadness burns everyday
How can one hide a rising smoke?
His eyes swell with tears
An average experience, not bespoke.
