Pegasus

Somewhere, deep in a cave, an unknown creature is born.
It will open its eyes to the harsh realities to be called ungodly;
Yet, through a mother's eyes, it is beautiful in its very design.
The way it moves and blinks and steps unsteadily on new legs:
Is just so perfect for a mother to see. Her child
Is her beauty, whereas others would see abomination—
But they only fear what they do not know. This creature
Could be the next saviour, yet it has been rejected and called
Strange and beastly. When this child stands,
What should have been a horse, will unveil its
Wings and flap them readily. It will trot around in its fresh,
New body—it is no abomination or disgrace to creation—
It is creation's great pride: a pegasus, for all to see.
A horse with wings to transport it to new lands—
Its mother knows what it was born to do. And while the world
Will protest a creature of such individuality, its mother will
Teach it to hold its head high, and embrace its distinctive
Qualities—so that, one day soon, it can flap its wings
And fly.
