A Broken Soul

Oh, my little angel, looking into your
eyes wasn’t easy as you always had
them closed,
Happy and peaceful as you enjoyed
your afternoon doze,
I wonder as I wander through this
busy world,
Why do my arms yearn to spin you
around in a dancing twirl?

As I recall the voices of you and your
friends from the birthday crowd,
All I could hear was your voice singing
joyfully, making me so proud,
Then, on that beautiful summer’s day,
The grass in the pastures was
lusciously green,
A few wild horses were grazing, your
rabbits were nibbling away, but our
Guinea fowls were nowhere to be seen.

Oh, why, why did you not sleep in
late like you always did?
Why did you sneak into the woods
so far and deep that no one could
have heard your shouts or your
screams?
Silent tears stream each day, and
so I willed the hour of darkness to
come,
In the darkness, no one could see
the sadness or the shell of a person
I had become.

Your presence kept me sane and
focused,
Beneath dim skies, with a heavy
heart, I watched as they laid you
down to rest,
By your favourite spot near the
pond of white lilies and pink lotus,
In this broken soul, the echoes of
your infectious laughter will always
remind me that I was Blessed.
