Shape Shifting Soul

You might say that I'm just an atom,
But the universe, I extoll.
I view everything in creation
As one big shape shifting soul.

Even individual beings' bodies
Are really something more.
Microbial cells in flesh and bones
Outnumber human cells galore.

A body's cell confederacy disbands
When fate says the time is right.
No longer guided by human hands,
Its atoms spread in flight.

Scientists show atoms on a table
For everyone to see,
But there's nobody on God's green earth
Who understands our energy.

We atoms formed in the blazing heart of stars.
Is there reason to our rhyme?
We've been everywhere in history,
across the fabric of space-time.

The atoms from your neighbor, Mr. Jones,
Once, were part of Shakespeare.
Those guys had many different names,
Such as "a rose" that he held dear.

Some atoms were forged into a lethal sword.
Some in the blood that flowed
Onto the flowery battlefield,
Next to a marigold.

Some of them had found their way into
A princess's golden hair.
Some were in the arms of the handsome prince
Who held that maiden, fair.

Others spoke the words that broke a heart,
So devoted and so true,
While some gushed forth from the heart that broke
As it was severed into two.

Once desperate criminals, once victims,
Once oppressors, once oppressed,
Once cruel masters, once abused slaves,
As atoms' energy expressed.

Time and space is one cosmic tapestry,
Atoms join the heavenly jamboree,

And everything is we and we and we.
