Not All It's Cracked Up To Be

NOT ALL IT’S CRACKED UPTO BE (An antidote to Spring)
When ancient poets wrote their odes to Spring, They wrote of daffodils and life anew, Of new-born lambs and skylarks on the wing, A time of hope and I believed that true. But I’ve grown cynical year after year And don’t see Spring through their poetic eyes. The daffodils soon wilt and weeds appear. The grass grows high; more dreaded exercise. The joyful lambs we welcomed with delight, Will all too soon be smothered in mint sauce. But though I’m sympathetic to their plight, I’ve other reasons for despair of course.
