There's More That Falls Below the Iceberg

Does my head in the guillotine promptly paint me guilty?
My last meal, a full plate of your golden excuses
But any attention means so much to me
We’re going in circles,
But feel free to say your mistakes first this time around, before we hault
Your favorite song is playing on our broken record player
And it's called "it's all my fault"

You were a dreamland
but the nightmares were my forgotten regrets and my fakest friends
We're the empty papers in an angry author’s fist,
Subject to crumbling
And I wallowed in the lakes that were calm when the world refused to be
But I guarded myself as I waited for something
That never came
And so you watched as I swallowed this pill for undoubtedly nothing

I threw a lifebuoy to my anchor and watched it sink deeper
Oversharing is the new smoking
My attention span, wearing thinner than a quarter
Wouldn’t you like to know how I got caught?
A dime thrown to show how accurate this prognosis was
And a shared penny for my afterthoughts
Our situationship was a hard pill to swallow
And I caught myself flailing in a lake, too shallow

She heard "initiation"
But there was never an invitation
And she has the cogitation
But romanticizes the antithesis of a mask, not for imitation
Was this your way of conveying devotion?
Did you shatter the glass that was shielding this illusion?

You have so much resistance you could start a revolution
But the ashes aren't what's stopping you
from setting ablaze your haunted mind of cobwebs and tombs
And being a burden is the new smoking
You inhaled it,
but it didn’t burn as long as your torch of false personas did
And I know the ashes aren’t what’s stopping you
From lighting my memorial candle so soon

Sprinting away from your homelife,
Tripping over every stone set without permission
And I thought you had prevailed over that fear
But you fell and exposed your achilles heel
Your conscience wasn’t developed enough through the camera reel
To see that you laid the blade right in your demon’s hands
And you shot the flare,
and now they know you’re weakened there

I don’t know if you’re strong enough to fuel this
A double edged sword of smiles and small fires
Disaster strikes on your drowning empire
A mind for mirrors, you must be replicating Atlantis
I reintroduced this mess into something
But it left my feet dragging into the ending,
So I swallowed this pill for nothing

And the ashes aren’t what’s stopping you from playing with matches
But we still have each other
along with our bandaids cut out in the middle
That I pretend are healing patches
A bouquet of roses, black and charred,
Smothering our love rations
But you have to make peace with inhaling smoke
If you wanna blow this place to ashes
Extinguish and distinguish what’s really stopping you
