Blood Lust

Was the grandest parade of the year
I saw the king's carriage pass by
Then suddenly I started twitching
As dust gathered in my right eye
I was blinking in a panicked mode
And I thought I had been unseen
But the soldier that arrested me
Swore I was flirting with the queen

The mind is racing frantically
With each ticking of the clock
It won't be long 'till they come for me
And lead me to the chopping block
Had my time in a kangaroo court
Where not a single truth was said
In the end the judge's smile was wide
When he declared "off with his head"

They would not bother to hang me high
Nor would they burn me at the stake
Seems everyone wants to see my blood
And watch my headless body shake
The judge then added the final words
"The body will be tied to a horse
And be dragged up and down Main Street"

Epilogue: There is one last thought I contemplate
As I'm writing my final verse
Just what would my fate have come to be
If I would have done something far worse
