The House Of Cards We Called Home
I never realized until I noticed
a part of me had dissolved
in the intoxication of you.
That missing piece was never mine—
it had always belonged to you.
I never noticed
how my sleep slipped away
into an ocean of thoughts
I couldn’t solve.
I wrapped myself in your thoughts—
thoughts that were not all true.
I lost a part of me
just to preserve the image of you,
etched deep in my heart,
in my soul,
in my mind.
I waited for an eternity
for the silence to break,
for the smile that never stayed.
I clung to the last sweet melody
that still echoes in my ears.
I couldn’t break the wall
you built around yourself
to protect your heartbreak.
A thousand times I tried and fell,
But the longing to be called yours
kept me chasing a million ways,
to hold on to a beautiful delusion I built in my fairytale.
I wish I could have a glance of your mysterious world.
Instead,
I built a house of cards,
believing it could be our forever home—
never noticing how it crumbled each day.
Still, I kept collecting the pieces,
like a hopeless soul
thinking it had found its forever place.
I never realized
until I emptied myself
just to carry your broken pieces as mine.
I never realized
I let you leave your fingerprints on my heart,
knowing they would haunt me
until my last breath.
I lost a piece of myself
just to keep the forever you.
