Outside World

They tell me it’s a nice day.
That’s what teachers say.
On the bus ride home, some kids open their windows.
I imagine throwing my books into the wind…
I step off the bus, and my backpack feels even heavier.
I don’t want to go home.
But out here?
With the hot day starting to cool just right…
I hear them laughing and it’s not about me probably, but still.
My parents are always looking outside.
Telling me, it’s a nice day, it’s a nice day.
But that doesn’t mean anything to me.
I’d rather pretend to do homework in my room.
It’s a nice day, it’s a nice day.
For everyone but me.
