Such an Inspiration--Grandma Moses

Young Anna* worked with yarn and loved a quilting bee,
but someday she’d do works that all the world would see.

Her genius flourished late in life and freely flowed,
for not by man but nature was her gift bestowed.

This aging artist knew what perseverance means.
She kept a steady hand to paint her lovely scenes.

With folk art some called “Primitive,” she’d rise to fame,
and “Grandma Moses” would become a household name.

Her paintings were of winter snows, a county fair,
church picnics, and a checkered House-- all done with flair.

Icon to Presidents and Norman Rockwell’s friend,
she earned appreciation that would see no end.

She painted rural settings bathed in brilliant sun
till just before her death at age one hundred one.
