Krampus instead of Santa

Katie was upset because she lived far away
Her job was lousy, she had no money for a rainy day
She asked her brother Rich for money but he said “sorry, no”.
Her mother had to die without her, for Katie had no way to go

Two years later she sent a letter to the executor, her brother.
Please, she said, “could I please have the ruby ring of our mother?”
Rich sold the house, and forgot to share proceeds with her, not one two-bit.
He told her that his wife had the ring, and loved it, so she could not have it.

Years later she saw the ring on the finger of a woman on a bus in Lurr.
She said “My mom used to have one just like it, it is beautiful, for sure.
Ring-wearer asked, “Is your name Katie? Are you from uptown Ming?
Katie nodded her head, and the woman handed her the ruby ring.

Your brother and I once were married, she said.
But he is a selfish man, stingy even in his head.
I was coming to Ming to find you and give you this ring.
Katie felt her mother with her that day, her soul began to sing.
