Crying Girl - Roy Lichtenstein

It's nothing, the tear can be wiped away
The emotion neatly swept aside today
Discreetly dealt with, it's alright
I cried out my eye colour during my plight
The only indication of my altered state
Don't talk about it, or my sadness tinged fate
Viewed close up there is no other trace
Feel free to be near, study my face
Come closer, I do not really mind
To be gazed at feels... almost kind
Not quite seeing past my unfilled eyes
I can't expect an onlooker to realise
That something happened to me
Something invisible for anyone to see
My heart broke over and over again
Created deep chasms filled with pain
Scattered all over my brain and heart
Creating an empty feeling, I'm set apart
But I find comfort residing here with you
Yet the tears sometimes still seep through
Telling that all is not what it may appear
A neglected child remains full of fear
The unfixable, rewired to malfunction
Fixated on false compunction
Always feeling it's me at fault
Impervious to attempt to exalt
Extrapolation of very minor matters
Self talk negates me as it chatters
But forget all that, for this moment please
I'll rest, watched over, feeling safe, at ease
It's a fleeting feeling, I'm aware of this
You'll go, comforting embrace I'll miss
I'll look to steady myself, I'll try
But all the broken pieces make me cry
Left to think, all my tears they fall
Because when I look at myself, I see nothing at all
