Wind Beneath My Wings, Tribute to Elena

“ Did I ever tell you, you are my hero?
Did I ever tell you, you are everything
  I wanted to be?
For, I can fly higher than an eagle,
You are the wind beneath my wings!”

             Happy Birthday, Elena!

You were born in Evanston, Illinois.
On a cold, snowy Midwestern day.
God sent you to me, so that I could
Learn life’s hard lessons, and to !pray.

Through the hardest times in my life,
You always had a smile and made
The darkness so very bright.
I will never know how you knew …
You make things, so magically, right!

I saw you at age ten, so admired by
Great women and scholarly men.
John Denver was very impressed,
With you, working in The Hunger Project ,
way back then!

Your long, brunette, hair and bangs glowed,
like the San Francisco sun!
I’ll never forget you at the Fairmont HotelL
On stage at age 11, in a panel, on the family.
You outshined the adults…everyone!

You still stand by me and you still !help
me get through my days.
And, when I doubt myself in poetry,
You erase them, you don’t buy into
My foolish, insecure, siily, ways!

Elena, you are not one to look and weep,
for a free handout!
You put yourself through college?
And at your graduation, I did loudly shout!

You are not one to cry about what
You did not have, not have what others did.
You got a job, while your friends
Who were affluent, had it all!

Twice you were elected to serve im publc office
AndI was phenomenally proud.
You helped us in electing a President,
I wanted to shout about it, aloud?

I walked you down the aisle, but…
I didn’t want to give you away.
When you live with an angel, it was
So hard to part ways!

Because you are more like my sister
…or best friend …
And here I am in my Sunset years
You’re still here, to support me..
I live in freedom ….with no fear.

You are a fantastic wife and vivacious
Caring mother to Eddie, your son!
I really don’t know how you work and
handle it all!

To Butch…you have been his faithful,
Fun and loving mate!
I can still see you two smiling, as you
left our house on your very first date!

          Happy Birtday, Top Daughter
     ~The Wind Beneath My Wings~

                     Love, Mom
                Glad you write here.
And you post all my images!!
                     Thank you.
