Maybe in My Way
Maybe in My Way
The angel closed her eyes
and turned to walk away;
Said "when you least expect it
I will return one day.
Though you may not see me
I'll interpret your dreams,
And the news which I bring
may not be what it seems".
I once thought long and hard
about the words she said,
I wondered if I'll see her
before that time I'm dead.
And now there come changes
in those dreams through the night,
Changes I can't explain
nor of them can I write.
Mornings come so quickly,
as though not enough sleep;
Mem'ries of the sunrise
aren't meant for me to keep.
Sometimes I can't recall
the sound of my own name,
And though it's a problem
I don't know who's to blame.
Mountains in the distance
no longer call to me;
Once knew those that travelled
and envied they were free.
Now I look to valleys
and walk through rains that fall;
Some say I should not run
until I've learned to crawl.
One thinks days are numbered
until the final end,
And everything you've earned
adds up to what you spend.
They may not understand
but I know what I meant,
And maybe in my way
I've come to be content.
