We Wait
by c. geeplay
As long as the shadows
of the
sun are on our brows
and the
savannahs are green with
wheat, and our harvests
are plentiful from the fields,
and our bond is bound to
the blessed land strong,
the shrines of our fathers,
and the farms of the earth
and grains are ripe for the
peasants, we shall turn
into gold the leafs of
the trees like the rising
sun brightens the oars
of our doors and floors.
We shall wait here, where the
savannah meets the Sahara,
and the mighty Mahoney
of these oaks brings
usrains to tell the stories
of our battered peoples
on the bark of these forested
hues, in the land where the
contradictions are stark, the
days dark, swelling with the
tides of the oceans, as
thousands of rose petals
lie in bloom to be picked, as
the cloud shows her face
smiling on her cosmic legs,
her distant rainbows teasing
our curious eyes.
The plaided isles of the golden
coasts spreading her open arms
on these dusty roads. We wait
still to see another day on the
cusp of our thirsty dreams.
Yes, the struggle continues.
We wait. And yes, we wait.
