The Forgotten Tree

Blessed are those with the life of a tree
For they hold life within the nests of birds
There leaves will shelter us from the sun
And when the raindrops drop from heaven

They bring smiles each Christmas year
There beaches have held many tree houses
With tire swings swinging bringing laughter
A place where owls can hoot at night

Trees will grow fruit even if it’s forbidden
There wood will bring us warmth with a fire
Colors will change when fall arrives
Leaves dropping with trash bags filling

The life of a tree is sometimes forgotten
How much a trees life brings life to us
Without them no oranges or apples
inhaling carbon and exhaling our oxygen

Roads of concrete have replaced them
Towering buildings producing no life
Cutting them down creating paper money
Blinded by the bright lights from our cites

We now live in a world of metal and steel
Killing ourselves with the cars we created
No longer at peace with thieves at our doors
Alone I want to be in a forest of trees
