It Happens Every Spring
My doctor can't explain my feverish condition
That makes my heart stand still then suddenly take wing
Each time I get a kind of tingly premonition
That very soon it will be spring.
I see rainbows, but it's clear, the sun is shining;
I hear songbirds long before they start to sing.
Each passing cloud I see shows me its silver lining,
It's symptomatic every spring.
His diagnosis is I'm suffering from daydreams,
I'm like a puppet with no one to pull the strings.
No vaccination can inoculate 'gainst fey dreams,
So wait and see what tomorrow brings.
If I still feel the way that I do today,
He says don't worry, it will pass away.
Like a heat rash, it's a temporary thing.
So no prescription, just take two aspirins,
Get lots of rest, and he'll see me again next spring.
