Prizes

The other day I got a flyer
Because I am a frequent flier
And, as you have already guessed
It said I was an 'honoured guest'
In fact, the 'most important one'
And a 'special prize' I had won
I gasped out loud, my breath did bate
And of course, I took the bait
Must be a diamond! (at least a carat)
So l ate the dangled carrot
Newsletters and ads I signed up for
Promotional emails, at least four
Well! I laughed myself completely hoarse
It seems I'd won a bloody horse!
I fell down in shock upon my humerus
The situation no longer humorous
My heart sank low weighed down like lead...
It seems it's up the creek I've been led

Premium MemberPrizes For Rudeness

Today I have prizes for them
Because they have been horrible
During my lunch duty

I am going to reward them today
They can choose their own prize
If they get the answers right

I will be very careful
To not call on those who have been exceptionally rude
Wouldn’t you?

Premium MemberNo Brilliancy Prizes

what the question was
contemplator put on pause
shifting instead into trance reverie
postulating consequences of asymmetry

ballet thus enacted in perfection of delight
treat for the soul yet we are contrite
because what the question was
was by artist put on pause

Premium MemberYour Three Prizes So Great

We prize so much of the physical
which is really just pure vanity
thinking they'll satisfy your every need
but actually, it all questions your sanity

Our greatest gift is our health
what are we without being well
appreciate God's wondrous gift
look after yourself, protect your shell

Our greatest wealth is our contentment
just to know the peace of heart and mind
to be still knowing such a deep calm
this is a real treasure, who indeed can find

Our best relationship is faithfulness
what price can you put on such a thing?
great to know one that sticks close to the end
a faithful friend always through thick and thin

These three prizes are so very great
appreciate them for your own gain
you may lose them if not careful
wrap them around you out of the rain

(Quote:
Health is the greatest gift,
contentment the greatest wealth,
faithfulness the best relationship - Anon. )

Lady Lotto

I take another lotto chance, a whirl,
Lady Lotto, powers of a girl,
A woman's touch,
I don't ask much,
Lotto can well afford all this,
Winning a prize would be the blip,
Do I have a lucky hunch?
Taking a ticket after lunch,
Do any of us have psychic abilities?
Lady Lotto, please smile on me!

Premium MemberA Valuable Insight For Chronic Winners

Ever wonder what difference it might make
To relinquish a trophy for someone else's sake
Who needs a win in their life right then
When you have a history of getting the win?

Ever wonder what difference it might make
To give up what would be easy to take
To realize the other fellow needs to score
While you only crave one laurel more?

Ever wonder what difference it might make
To pass up that honor without being fake
By genuinely setting your own need aside
Helping someone else to crest the tide?

Ever wonder what difference it might make
To learn the value of being opaque?
While seeing another enjoy the limelight
You might gain for yourself a valuable insight.

Covid came along and mankind aint seen nothing like this

Showing us the media are talk spit ill advisors
dramatizing story lines to reap financial prizes

Villanelle : Merchants of the Word make Writers write for Prizes

Merchants of the Word make writers write for prizes
Does not the failed writer pose as house editor
Great treasures of the past were weaned without judges

Prized-writers in our midst make all kinds of noises
Matters little so long as till fills publisher
Merchants of the Word make writers write for prizes

Lope de Vega scorned long-suff'ring Cervantes
His plight mattered only to French Ambassador
Great treasures of the past were weaned without judges

Prized-writers need not fear e'en wise connaisseurs
Don't they write with flourish cocking-eye on reader
Merchants of the Word make writers write for prizes

Does the Nobel go to some who serve lost causes
Or to some who serve publishers like the Booker
Great treasures of the past were weaned without judges

True, ancient poets sang under patronages
Yet those we love most lived life under the jailor
Merchants of the Word make writers write for prizes
Great treasures of the past were weaned without judges
