OUTSIDE EDEN
To the garden, add children twist - the boys
Outside Eden; were they ever great friends?
Cain’s sin parts ways; his jealousy destroys.
The blood of Eve’s son cries…to God ascends.
HEARTBREAKING KNOCK AT THE DOOR
A quiet day in shade - a broken heart.
Adam and Eve - their due penalty seed
Brought forth; the sting of death - Abel’s depart’.
Torrential tears before earth’s flood was freed.
BLOODY SOIL
Thus cursed, Cain can’t remain on bloody soil.
He must wander…”It is too hard”-complaint.
Afraid…all cowards are…filled with turmoil.
Mark placed on Cain - God’s grace…not poster paint.
PROMISES
This first recorded death…the promised end.
Christ’s cross positioned in God’s grace-extend.

Mounted on one wall
a board wrapped
in brown paper.
A signal of
impermanence for children.
Painted were a rainbow
and a hundred tiny hands
in the colors of poster paint
all spread palm up,
receptive, uninformed.
As I heard the
echos of soprano voices
I felt the fantasy of tiny fingers
brushing my
sophisticated face.
Smiling all around,
the people brought
the smiles in.
They were not
manufactured there,
but heated in the lives
that came there,
retaining their warmth
through the hours,
saying hello and hello
and welcome everyone.
