Vargas pin up girls of the thirties
intrigued us, delighted us, incited us
then along came Barbie, reinforcing
that women are beautiful,
almost as delightful as the automobiles they sell

Some of the sexiest women are Vargas’s 1940 pinup girls,
They are drawn with long hair, sensuous legs, and the right kind of curls.
Enhanced in all the right places, there is nothing that exudes sex faster
Graphic drawings of cattish women are not the kind you put out to pasture.
Do you remember Cat-Woman drawn fearlessly by our old friend Stan Lee?
Hallee Berry brought her to life, but the one who graphically created her was he.
Betty Boop, a cartoon femme fatale’ had style, and sex that could make a sailor blush,
Disney’s artists’ did not draw a Tinker Bell without perky boobs and a little tush.
I believe graphic novels and cartoon classics are here today to stay,
Because the sexy superheroes – both men and women make the reader’s day.
Captain America and Batman have those enormous abs, and a teeny waist.
Jessica Rabbit’s ‘I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way,” was not penned with any haste.

In the 1950’s we thought we were so modern, so sophisticated, so posh.
When Barbie came out, she was the rage, and we little girls thought we were ready by gosh.
Goodbye Vargas pinup girls, good bye hoop skirts, and Betty Boop. Some of us would confer.
A 1950’s art peek might amaze you as to how into space travel we were.
The ones who were in style so to speak, we decorated with abstracts, big and bold.
Moms carefully steered clear of the nature colors of our grandmothers, they seemed way too old.
These colors came back into style about twenty years ago, full force and all.
To jog your memory bank, look at the ads of your childhood. They are a wake up call.

FRAMING THE PIN-UP GIRL
His hands, they frame and catch, the pin-up girl.
Tanned hands, they're hot - he drops his sweaty palms.
Her lips - plum succulence. Hair’s suavely curl ~
a brilliant cinnamon. He has some qualms.
Approaches beauty queen with plastered smile.
She feigns to look away ~ that’s just her way.
Performance broken by his slipshod style.
Turns out, they're moon and sun ~ like night and day.
The opposite attract of belle and nerd,
A curative for broken-hearted ~ bliss.
A certain bit of trouble is assured.
Before the final curtain falls ~ love’s kiss.
He’s coy and lovable and kind of dreamy.
She’s brash and pushy but she’s rather steamy.

I'd pin you
up
by the throat
your small hands
grip my wrist
soon enough marks a
beginning of fade
you first, then your
grip
clouds move in close
in seconds your
dreams feel like
years
I'd pin you up
by your neck to the
floor
release my grip just
enough
to hear you gasp
for oxygen and I
give you life,
and gave you life
clouds start to
clear
and you ask for
more

i am a woman
tell me what is that
sometimes i feel
i'm too thin
too tall
too plain
and too fat
i am a woman
where's the holy grail
will you still love me
the next day
and the next
when i'm old
when i'm frail?
i am a woman
where's my sister in this game
and when i feel like
a complete
incomplete
obsolete low down shame
i am a woman
not your object to claim
you don't tell me
i'm too thin
too fat
not good enough or anything like that
for every blemish and hair on my face
every curve on my body
is a part of me
makes me real
makes me chase
away those of you
bound and determined
to beat me
defeat me
with precision
with haste
I am a woman
let's just leave it at that
i am what i am
too thin
too tall
too plain
and too fat
