?Twenty-Twenty-Two skidoo
your year is through
we’ve had too much
of you.

Supply chain

Insane

And one needn’t be clairvoyant
to know despite vaccines bivalent
Covid is here to stay.
Mask-up.

Climate overheating
sea levels rising
yet Buffalo freezing
perhaps the Bills
will win Superbowl LVII
in MMXXIII

Collapse of All We Know

Wild fires signify the world is burning

Pollution ravaging the seas show the tides not turning,

Pesticides pollute the air and earth and what makes it worse

Is it infiltrates our food supply and puts us all risk,

Yet still the multi nationals want to make it harder still to exist,

By fracking fuel that poisons the water tables and cause quakes

And those who cannot see this are not ing awake,

The planet is overheating as the ice caps melt

And sooner rather than later these effects will be felt,

And meanwhile man keeps driving animals into extinction

If some told about this years ago you would think it science fiction,

And if that’s not enough capitalist, right wing Fascistic governments

Are driving people into food banks causing more homeless people on the street,

So with the collapse of society, the environment and earth

We must start questioning will we get what we deserve,

A planet that we can’t live no longer on because of our destructive ways

The ferryman is coming soon and mankind is going to pay.

2021 the Year Poets Saved Christmas

The year was 2021 and Christmas was fast approaching,
Fear and uncertainty were seeping into every corner of daily life,
Good will was at an all time low throughout the land,
With Covid spreading faster than the gossip surrounding it,
The people cried out in vain, many going insane,
Few safe in their own company for than a week.

With those in power throwing in the towel,
The situation was grim indeed,
Is this the end becoming the catch phrase?

Who would have thought that once again poets?,
Would be called upon to save the day,
With style and wit, the pens began scratching,
And keypads started overheating,
As out of the mist that hung over the many backwaters and lonely bye-ways,
Poems filled with the spirit of Christmas past began to appear.

As one after the other poets on the soup took up the call,
With other forums soon taking up the challenge,
To light another candle of positive thought,
And push back the darkness,
Saving Christmas for another year,
Giving those who threw in their towels,
Or failed to take sound advice,
Another chance to put things right in 2022.

Hymn: Melting Frozen Jewels

God's bountiful creation,
our hearts with wonder fill,
held now in contemplation
with mind and body still.
Diversity of creatures,
varieties of plants
for our delight displayed here
that we may be entranced.

Among the host of creatures
just who am I but one?
Yet you and I together
the world have overrun.
We've stained its glorious beauty,
good habitats are lost,
exploited or polluted
at devastating cost.

Our planet's overheating
through burning fossil fuels;
all round the seas are rising
from melting frozen jewels.
Where will the plants and creatures
find refuge to survive?
Without their diverse presence
have we the will to thrive?

It's not too late God shows us,
and science also tells,
to change our ways of living
pollutants to dispel.
Jesus, in mercy lead us
consumers of excess
from fouling our surroundings
to making do with less.

Earth, air and seas defiled,
God calls us to restore
for future generations
to wonder at once more.
Diversity of creatures,
varieties of plants
for their delight renewed there
that they may be entranced.

Burnt Toast

At some point you are going to need to impress more than a few friends with some burnt toast. I used to have an old, heavy-gauge chrome-plated toaster with a dial to adjust doneness from 1-5. I took a Sharpie and scribed a 6 at the extreme. The pointer doesn’t actually go there, but it is useful for indicating my intent. It works better than the 5 setting which merely chars the surface. But 6 chars it darn near all the way through, enlarging the pore structure to retain even more melted butter. You gotta be cautious not to overuse that feature because it’ll burn the toaster, as in overheating the thermostat and melting the whispy wires. No more toast for you. Back at the store they were quick to figure out your attempt to exceed the capacity and the clearly worded statement in the ownership contract will be pointed out to you, that glamorous document with the curly-Q decorations making it supremely authentic like a stock certificate from the 1960’s. They replaced my toaster once, but the second and third times I only got a stern look of reproach. The manufacturer has black listed me through my credit card so now all my toaster purchases are cash only.

Lily Multiplied

I had been time travelling for about a thousand years
a step away from the milky way now
(engines overheating) you know
my dachshund Lily, floated by and licked my nose
and did that ear-thing where they curiously flip and
flop the way they do in ice cream commercials

Lily Carmichael #137 neutron product Earth.
Her breeder had assured me her breed was genuine
and she would be a good little dog

but Lily had reproduced herself by jumping
into the halidron multiplier
so now you see, there were seven hundred Lily clones
floating merrily and bumping into everything

fortunately the ship was vast (and could be seen from
The Great Wall of China):
the biggest issue was feeding and following them with a poop bag
as we sped from galaxy to galaxy

this remained a problem until I manafactured enough grub bots
and poop bots to attend to all the Lilies various functions

so... my"Lilies" look cute in their little space suits
and ice cream ears, floating around the master control cabin
near the edge of the known universe

if anyone one needs a good little travel companion
I have six hundred and ninety nine waiting "for a good home"

through the vein of an old song
the antique gathered speed
sputtering and spitting rust
halos of smoke
engine overheating,
stranded in desperate city
cinderblock people are freaky
the song lay dead
outside the vein...

7654 ... 321

The 7,654th day of my life
Who would've thought it could be?
That all of those days of waiting,
This day would set me free?

Why do I feel like today could be it?
When I've been counting down,
but zero has yet to hit?

My heart keeps beating
My blood stays flowing
But my brain is overheating
Without me even knowing

You came into my life
Without fair warning
Consistantly reminding me you care
Each and every morning

It's like destiny introduced us
And faith made us close
As if God sent me an angel
When i needed one most.

You are the exact definition
of what a real man should be;
A true lover, husband, father & friend
You're perfect, but that's something you don't see.

In my eyes you're much more
Than what you'll care to believe.
Because you're my best friend and confidon,
And the truth is what I perceive.

If I died today, I can say that
I'd be sure of only one thing
That meeting you is greatest joy
That my life could ever bring

So when it's all said and done,
I'm still counting down
7 - 6 - 5 - 4 ... 3 - 2 - 1
Zero still has yet to come.

Spun

Unrestrained, non-contained callous attitude
unexplained, over pained, indentured servitude . . .

Overstated, unrelated, tantrum over-grown
medicated, anticipated, origin unknown . . .

Self defeating, overheating, systems overload
Unrelenting, soul dissenting, virtual implode . . .

Eradicated, decimated, instantly destroyed
terminated, eliminated, negative employed . . .

Annihilation, devastation, shattered symmetry
retribution, absolution, selective memory . . .

Over-bearing, never sparing, unending obligation
vacant staring, lack of caring, growing consternation . . .

Ruminating, agitating, lacking recognition
complicating, reiterating, periodic repetition . . .
