A frigid spell of arctic air
adorns the tranquil western scene;
a stunning glimpse of fall’s affair
with spring’s vivacious flower queen.
When autumn’s cooling wind combines
with April's warming playful breeze,
a whirling tempest paints designs
on grounds of winter’s icy freeze.
On sculptured hills of milky snows
October's tepid finger strolls,
and May's seductive blossom grows
when rising mercury controls.
Two heated seasons blend in time,
creating havoc in the sky.
Through swelling clouds of grey they climb
releasing moisture as they fly.
A blizzard raves across the path
of spring and autumn’s torrid flight,
and winter smiles in aftermath;
they outperformed this glacial night.

She did not know she was smart
That had been drummed out of her
By her parents and now Mr. Wonderful
He came in to take the GED test
I was the teacher
His scores were horrible
I had encouraged her to take the test too
She had been reluctant
But he had coaxed her, in a teasing way as if he thought she was dumb
She outperformed him by leaps and bounds.
I told her she could take the real GED test
But he would have to come back and take classes
She gave me a sad look as they left
I never knew if she was to be beaten
But they never returned

Are all magic potions green?
I stare at my latest painting
This one is.
I reach for green.
Somehow I accidentally pick up pink.
I paint the magic potion pink.
Once again my subconscious
outsmarted and outperformed
my conscious

Beauty in its simplest form
Never can really be outperformed
The basis of life
It isn't a choice
It's beyond words since being born

We were born into a sabotaged life,
Darwin's Theory of Evolution.
Protruding branches trapped by the tree of life,
but sunlight produces chlorophyll, the attribution revolution.
We had to fight to be born,
against gravity, disease and other sperm.
Millions of others we outperformed,
instinctually toughened like a pachyderm.
But something goes wrong once we leave the womb,
our skin is soft and we need love to survive.
Checkmate, milk and sustenance, the mothers legume,
the real challenge arrived it has, learning to stay alive.

In bed, I confessed the most
agonizing pain ever hidden
I kept it for so many years
whirling through my head
and guised as laughter
for all to see, but I couldn’t beam
with pride at having not
outperformed my weakness
You were not asleep
and I found a chance to spill it out
from my chest to yours
that I could put it to rest
Soon, silence fell against our will,
but I did understand a thing
The pain has been released,
shared for the very first time
Ah, I never remembered how
tearful I was last night
and who cares? I don't, ‘cause...
you were accenting,
warm and a good listener
rightly suits a troubled son
