We believe in diverse in our universe
Our government’s a meritocracy in reverse
Red folks, brown folks, yellow and green
Indigenous Indians, Asians, Orientals, ‘Mar-sheens’
So despite constant breakdowns in communication
Multicolor anger and fury benefits all nations…
We also support workplace equity
All employee reviews must be ‘A’ or ‘B’
And of course there’s inclusion, finally
For violent ex-felons we bend the knee
All told, with our universe we’ve given birth
~ to a bigger mess than Planet Earth

A fork to eat soup is unwise
Thus, spoons are no surprise
It makes no sense if anyone picks
To try to eat rice with two sticks
If I try with all of my might
I might get a teeny-tiny bite
To pick up meat might be okay
For little grains--it’s nuts I say!
Orientals may master the skill
So that chopsticks fill the bill
But here’s the thing I want to say:
Why would anybody pick that way!

As time goes by
In our town there were many small shops, one selling
buttons the other socks; and a hardware store should
you need a hammer and nails to hang up a picture of
your mother -in- law, in the living room.
There was also a shop selling scarves, another selling
ladies hats, and a third one, quite posh, selling suits and
ties. I mustn’t forget the shoe shop, leather footwear
black or brown and white tennis shoes.
In our street of trade most shops have shut, those still
open are run by the Orientals where you can buy all
you need for a very small price. If your shoes wear out,
no point going to the old cobbler, buy Chinese instead.
Red lanterns sway in the fiscal breeze of decline where
wistfulness has no price tag. But you must remember
this, a shop is just a shop, yet, for us sentimental fools,
are remembered as a sweet memory of times gone by,

DRAGON ZODIAC ZONES
If not for this contest
I would not have comb out astrology
But, I wanted to please Nette
So, I sat down, investigate my Zodiac sign.
Water dragon, that is me!
My daughter calls me “rooster cuts off in its head!”
Fits the character of the dragon:
Full of energy, free-spirited, eccentric, dauntless
Flamboyant, colorful, passionate, stubborn, powerful.
Twenty four hours in a day, not enough for the dragon
Multi -tasking is the game
Clinic job 5 days a week, networking on a weekend
Taking care of love ones,
Poetry by night, unusual exciting phenomena.
Water dragon
I am free and uninhibited
Throw me in a cage: lock me, chain me, restrain me with all your might
But I fly with the cage, fearlessly, magically
My ferocious wings soar to the unknown!
The Westerners want to slay me, to kill me is futile
My intense power bounce back, my fiery mouth devastating!
The Orientals love me, my pictures hang in their abode, my body girates in parades
Dragon, I am
Deliverer of good fortunes!

FOCUS NEIGHBORHOOD
It is a collective concern
A consciousness of soul few possess
‘Neighborhood’ is the term
We cannot know all just a few things each one
From somewhere beyond the Milky Way
A powerful telescope zeros-in
Encircling a globe – to that furthest eye a bare acre
And in that focus
That ‘neighborhood’
Is contained a nucleus
Greeks
Spaniards
Italians
Germans
British
Polish
Russians
Africans
Orientals
A collective possibility that -
Once smitten all with love and concern –
They might free the world

Look up to the sky
take a look at the boldness of the sun
behold the brightness of the stars
they hold no grudges
they come, they shine
for you, for me:
caucasian, black or orientals
Look up at the sky
See the beauty of the moon
it illuminates prison as well palace
they no know boundary nor landmark
hear the rhytm of the rains
it beats the ghetto and the golden city
see its water flows
linking the mosques and the churches
they hold no sentiments nor bias
then look at yourself
and I myself
and together ourselves
and take a cue from
the ancients of days.
