Odum Poems

INNOCENT RITUAL
The sound came suddenly but sharply
Odum had started beating his drums
Telling all it is time

With a rush, Awili began sweeping wildly
Spreading the dirt as far away as he could reach
Heralding his coming is alway with a ceremony
Sending all with a rush
Thus making shouts and yells a common course
Again Amen has come
With all her splendour
Graced with a million sticks
To pierce the soil

It must be today said l
An outstretched limb of awili
Went over my back
Sparkling up a nostalgia
To the yearning of decades

The ritual must be today
The call must be yielded
With a bow
My robe was loosen
And out with dudu i stepped
Cloaked only in natures’ suit

Power of Yaa

The rains have come
from the seas they march
riding on the chariots of
Shu.
With black angry faces
from a furious fight with
Helios.
They cover the sky with
their might and beat
down on Asaase Yaa.
In pain she screams and
twists
making vast a number of
drops run down her
inexplicable features.
This creates rushing
waters strong enough to
bring down the mighty
Odum.
The great three has fallen
from the tongue lashing
of the rains.
Asaase Yaa sheds tears
which makes everything
beautiful giving life to the
dead seed.
She shouts out rise from
your slumber you
dormant seed rise.
Break through my
epidermis and nourish
yourself with my rain
soaked nutrients.
Live again and disgrace
the clouds.
Make them see that they
cant distroy the earth.
What the spoil i will
replenish a hundred fold.
 With their rain spears i
shall build canopies.
And with thier fury i will
create rivers and
fountains.
For i am the great mother
nature.
I make you reap what
you sow.
So sow with caution.

Awake

Your sons and daughters have gathered
Under the great odum tree
We have come to offer the fruits of our lips

Can you hear the rhythmic tunes of the xylophone?
Can you hear the vibrations from the flutes?
Can you hear the sounds of our melody?

Awake!

We are the children of your great heritage
We are the children of your great tribe
The tribe our ancestors gave us
The tribe that is not complete without
Its mortar and pistil

We are under the great odum tree
The tree that stands between our two tribes
The tree that gave our posterities life

Your kings are here
Your elders are here
Your children are here

Awake! And listen to our great melody.
