If Money Grew
I would plant a garden.
I would make every row,
straight.
They would be perfect,
as hard work,
produces the best crops.
Grandpa taught me everything.
Ocra, grows high and must be,
harvested early,
or it becomes too hard to eat.
Summer squash and pickles,
just the same.
Tomatoes, small, red, ripe,
green, beef and/or Tomatillo flavors,
all the promise of food on the table,
and the bounty of God’s blessing.
Bright fresh flowers,
to cheer friends,
in need or in pain.
Delicious fresh herbs,
to flavor the cup for the weak,
and confused inside.
The cost of things given,
very little.
The cost of things,
planted from seeds,
lovingly shared with others,
perfectly coined.
The face…of God!

The shadow grows across the gable.
Time for the sparrow to roost and rest.
Night bird calls, sadden my brow to know
You no longer caress my hand.
Your carriage left one day
Carried you, my love, so far
My love rests upon a weeping willow
beside the flowing brook.
We shall meet in sweet chariot
to ride away in the ocra sky.
At dusk, I watch and wait, my love,
For the rumble of hooves
and smell of home.

Curried chicken sauce on the stove.
Have to pick the fowl from bones.
Matzo noodle soup; carrots, onions,
Celery and spice. Something nice
With corn and toast. Fried ocra on
The side, iced tea and Coke. Yum!
After the feast, smoke and Brandy.
Mighty fine eats, sweet and dandy.
Fried chicken, fish fry, tators fried.
Sometimes somebody has died.
At Christmas it's Jesus' birthday.
We say our grace because he died
At Easter time, no feast for that day.
Easter lilies on the table, set for the
Next dandy dinner. It'll be a winner.
