NON NOBIS DOMINE
Significant, back in the day
Was the Knight Templar cross pattee
Red and stout with its flattened ends
A different message that it sends
Papal directives to obey
Significant, back in the day
A secretive knightly order
Sent to the Holy Land border
To take and keep Jerusalem
The holy city, a real gem
Significant, back in the day
Try to keep Saladin away
The order grew and was wealthy
Their cavalry charge not stealthy
For years, kept enemies at bay
Significant, back in the day

Earthen songs! from handsome angel throngs, opsoletus
Intervals and spells of the scope of temporal rondure,
A surging of the populus in singulari confluentia
So the book does diagram guthan, guð, and god,
Khute gaia, of poured earth, where legend sleeps
The burial dunes of Zeus, Aether, Erebus, and Chaos
Seasons advance with a tempering of wind’s instruments,
Sweltering bloom to hyperborean calm of frozen seed
Daughters and sons! from cildhama, fruit of the womb
Roaming deeds, of sin and samaritan, per omne spatium
Space of continental breadth or old borough border rings
Century to century in continuo, each end to seamless end
non vigilemus et dormimus in aeternum, of briefest history,
We do not speak of ages dissolved in lights of admiration
Stygian time cannot lie, and there will be other Dark Ages
We now originate and architect machines from the earth
Greater eyes and senses than what natura dedit nobis
What have we committed that we can conceivably survive?
nihil est quod in dulcedinem originis non evanescatin,
There is nothing that does not fade into the sweetness of its origin.

Deus et Pater gratias ago tibi semper,
I thank you always Father God
ut det Patri
cur vexas
Et miserere dona nobis
Non sum dignus
Hallelujah
non sum
Non sum dignus
Sed usquam
Et semper,
Deus et Pater gratias ago tibi semper,
for giving Father
why do you bother
Mercy you grant us
I am not worthy
Hallelujah
Not I
I am not worthy
But anyway
And in always
I thank you always Father God

Lost Heroines
Anna K. had her train
Virginia her river Ouse
Emma B. chose poison
And Janice heard
and succumbed to
the false seduction
of her lethal needle.
So many distraught, gifted souls
Lost in that far country
Unable to find the thread
that could lead them back
Dancing recklessly to the precipice
Until that Orphic siren is too stong to resist
and lures them like a lover to the
waiting abyss
With ashes and sackcloth
I enter the temple seeking solace
from their haunting refrain
alone, alone, so utterly alone.
So my prayer like the psalmist's supplication
rises like incense to an unknown god
"Rescue me from the darkened
shades of Sheol."
At least abandon me not
to the fate of such gifted, isolated women
For who can love you, adore you, worship you
When our last hope is eclipsed
by the deep that calls unto the deep?
Ora pro nobis Anna, Virginia, Emma, and Janice

bridges
The kids, their teacher, sprouts and dandelions
the aquarellist and a wet bicycle.
Sit on the worm bench as bytes on the mainframe
wiped pastel of a bright warmth with shades of red
gray
as I look down I find more than wanted
for god sake, it’s the age throbbing you see
and frailty, thy name is woman drifts in
been mine for too long in nobis chesterland
churches
slender cobbled gothics and proud romanesques
the decorum of acolytes and bishop
blesses youthful virginity using gods
eleventh finger prodding at my tongue
Florence, Bruges and Ghent
old cities of Europe
contrast with gadgets
life and hearts
break fast
