Do you remember
when we left the baraylehan
early
at midnight
.
It was my alibi,
I really meant to
walk with you
I smiled when you held
my hand.
The nipa leaves
let go of the moon
as the music at the dance
went silent,
I kissed you.
The road was cold
the grass beside it moist
my heart was singing
and dancing
It stopped.

Sweet sunrise dances over the horizon and the gentle wind blows
Of summer breeze; weekend ripples stay at mangrove tree.
We hear and feel swelling waves during high tide
Beneath the nipa hut that seems boating at night.
Our arms feel the warmness, the softness and deepness
And my voice whispers love and happiness.
Our dreams of a lifetime caress, of endless care
And of love may perish at twilight.

A woman was walking along the shoreline,
And she’s saying, “My love for you is a journey.”
Right there, at the nipa hut of a fisherman,
The door was wide open like his open arm.
The time was perfect but her coming was short.
The place was silent and she heard of lasting words,
“Whatever happens, you’ll always be in my heart.”;
“Whatever happens, you’ll always be in my dreams.”
They sung their love songs from the bottom of their hearts.
They closed their eyes and dreamt their music.
Their sweet love was like the horizon at daylight.
And they only dreamt weekend moments at night.

Cold breeze whipping against my face,
blurred vision of distant moving trees,
roaring drums pounding inside the ears,
bumps and screeches beneath my feet.
Inviting clear skies of china blue,
splurging clouds, gigantic in rows,
resting birds on telephone lines,
a fast escape from society’s bond.
Winding roads flowing up and down,
huge billboards, the face of a clown,
long stretches of dirt and stones,
a dazzling display of incompetence.
Majestic parade of crumbling nipa huts,
country of slaves exploited for long,
naked old men toiling for the land,
none at stake but their tired souls.
City lights flickering from below,
roaming whores hunting for preys,
sounds of sirens, loud and clear,
another heinous crime of man.
Men of hate filled with indifference,
possessed by ghosts, hired by a devil,
cruel leadership of brutes among men,
tears are falling out of pain.
Society with all its cares and woes,
uncertain what tomorrow brings anew,
neglected past of times unknown,
no lesson has been learned.
