A happenstance of useless attempt,
The folly of entering the wrong classroom.
I am told to sit down and paint.
Paint what? I never used a brush before.
I dream I am a gull.
An idea flutters erratically as
My thoughts wafting over turbulent seas.
Perchance I might find some fodder
To enhance my worthless chances.
The sea whispers back to me:
Begin your quest.
I splash my canvas with irrational colours,
I daub here and there, using all types of blue and white.
A misogamy of random hues.
Clearly a failure of painting
As the canvas is now dank and worthless.
Slowly it dries and I wonder what it is supposed
To convey. The teacher looks on humming.
You like the abstract? she asks.

worlds within
and without are all waning
insatiable
chaos
vacuum
the void
which sat between heavens
heavens splitting the waters
the waters, the weeds
create living geometries
etch-a-sketch drawings
of silent mandalas
now the dreamweaver
lotus
now the lucid unwaking ones
who appear at your bedside
disdaining your closet
while you lie
awake
sleeping
hypnogogically paralyzed
their eyes burning green
freeze your skies
red
as
Christ
comes
you
trapped in misogamy
you
flying through tattered air
you
stoned off this oxygen
burned by the stare
of a mirror

MISANTHROPE
For Mel, my wordsmith
I miss you my misanthropos
My groucho cynic hermit
But I’m glad you left my life
For now I love a man called Phil
And he loves all that you abhor
Mankind, marriage, me
My kind-hearted Philanthropos
Who I can’t fault for misogyny
Or misology or even misogamy
Misanthropos, I wish you well
I am not the person to misein
And you are still an anthropos
I promised once to love forever,
My doubter, mocker, pessimist,
My sexist anti-feminist…
But:
Enough is finally enough
My Phil and I wish you well
You sourpuss, killjoy, gloomer
I’m off to better futures
You stay here in your shell.
