Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe
I had a Pappy; his name was Moe.
Pappy Moe raised a deer; it was a doe.
The doe he raised was named Joe.
Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe
My Pappy Moe.

Eenie, Meenie, Miny, Mo,
drums beat loud, a finger shows
Tigers prowl within our reach
—on tippytoes our fate impeached

How should I begin
The etching of my heart?
Should I start by saying
How I fell from the start?
Will it even make sense
To compare you to incense
Or my love to hell fire?
And you as my halleluya
What if I say that you
Are to me as the dew?
And how the sky when it's blue
Creates in me, a picture of you?
Won't it be to your ear
Like eeny, meeny, miny moe?
So let me drop all the rhymes
And say only the truth, "I love you"

Consistency ruined my very existence
No fun for the one they call talented
Work is my second bed, fun is but a dream
Spirals twirl within my mind constantly
Miny typhoons pillage my thought process
To be great means being alone
My work fails to meet my comfort level
Comforted not, I search for the love that I lost
The fun we once shared is no longer amusing
Seriousness has weakened me tremendously
The ache of my heart causes many hurricanes
The ongoing search for what was
Ruined by greatness, poisoned by intelligence

Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe
By Valerie Odom
March 5, 2017
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe
Catch a tiger by the toe
If he hollers let him go,
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe
My mother told me
To pick the very best one
And you are not it
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe
By day I have to put on a show
Just sit and smile and not say no
While they give me their opinions on my afro
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe
By night my sorrows start to glow
My rhythmic notes begin to flow
And form into material
They tried to tell me
Keep your head high
And you will not fall

Eeny, Meeny, Miny, and Moe,
Are acid, cannabis, booze, and blow.
Do some and your mind will grow,
But once their done, you'll feel so-so.
So catch your cravings by the toe,
And when you holler, let them go.

Let Him Go (Limerick)
Our mom told us how she chose her beau,
With an “eeny, meeny, miny, moe!”
Of course it didn’t last,
With a choice so half-assed!
But at least it taught the fool to grow!
Child Support (Haiku)
Parental disputes
Had placed us in the middle
Of their divorce wars
Divorce (Couplet)
He left her to fend for us alone, blasé with his remiss,
She chose to break this conjugal bond without marital bliss.
