I wrote this one after watching the miniseries “The Pacific.”
THE BURBS AREN’T SCARY AT ALL
Scarier the skeletons sitting in the suburbs
or the ones being dug out of graves…
the ones in the foxhole,
that you must brave.
It’s all a graveyard,
a horror movie…it’s war.
The setup couldn’t be more frightening.
The enemy was glad to prepare it for you.
Ghosts are all about…hungry,
to tell you what it’s all about. You close your eyes,
wipe away the grime.
The skin-crawling maggots are brought to life,
all the livelong day. The scent of fetid perfume,
no roses to deceive the nose - the stench.
Descending to the bottom of the abyss -
the devil gives you a kiss on the lips.
The burbs aren’t scary at all. The bony mass stares.
Pretty pumpkins, smashed, everywhere.

She is not just images of starving children with bellies bloated with air
She is not just dry faces and tattered clothes with flies circling her hair
She is not just voodoo priestesses
drinking the blood of a fowl
She is not just heartless warmongers
who shoot the innocent down
She is not just an impoverished land consumed by HIV and AIDS
She is not just a late night TV ad
requesting 15 cents a day
She is not just bare breasted mothers carrying infants across her back
She is not just corrupted dictators
and genocidal maniacs
She is not just elongated necks
adorned with rings
She is not just lip plates
and other "unnatural things"
She is not just steamy jungles
overrun with apes
She is not just shabby huts
all in disarray
She is not just Sarafina
or the miniseries Roots
She is not just hotel Rwanda
or Shaka Zulu
What she is, and will always be,
is the mother of civilization,
creator of humanity.

Commercial (The TV Miniseries)
I watch TV all day, even when I play or sleep
Information about cars, phones, pharmaceuticals
Is what I’m craving for, so give me more
Drug companies pay billions to make a score
To educate, inform, cure us of diseases we don’t have
They make sure we watch and never think
Commercials play repeatedly
Even if we’re bored and snoring
Don’t blink
They save us from the heartbreak of scoliosis
I don’t know what that is or what it’s for
But give me more
I buy everything on shopping networks
Including insurance for car and house, though I don’t have them
I can’t live without meteor and nuclear war insurance
According to the message
I can’t wait for the new season to start
My heart is palpitating
Commercial, The Miniseries will air September in the nation
Pull up a chair and start your couch potations

lonesome and lonely I walk
bore in and between every strand of life
as figures of gesture now pulls me to the stream of every reason
left unanswerable in this miniseries of love
within and without any careless reason of its own
yet no slogan to say
loosing my mind another exercise with no shame of stupidity
as everything becomes anything
in skepticism of telling you the truth
unbecoming i become mingled with the fear of coming up to you
for the love I feel and re-feel to certainty
fearing an irrefutable no from you
and in all,
I truly and madly fall deeply and sincerely for you
regardless of no courage of mine.
