Sometimes Heroes Mess Up

watched the sunset crawl
across the barren horizon,
like a strumpet with secrets.

ego, a feral beast, gnaws
at the barbed wire of my mind,
taunting me with each bitter truth.

am but a fragile leaf in a tempest,
clinging to the shards of my shattered dreams.

internet_deathspeople,
predators lurking in the depths,
herding me toward the abyss,
as they praised my latest poem,
dissecting it for its fragility,
its desperation.

stand alone, ripe for the plucking,
a ravaged beauty on the platter
of their endless cruelty.

churning emerald sea,
against which I am utterly impotent,
a dying thing, flailing in its shallows.
at the end of the day, i am a failure,
widow, failed as a mother,
a lonely woman in a cornfield,
trying to find reasons to keep going.

and, i am running out of fuel,
to pour on myself, so i have fire,
candles flickering for the gothic maiden,
the shadows creep in closer and closer.

how much longer till it goes out,
i can feel the breeze on the back of my neck.
have seen the eyes of the reaper,
she wears my face.

You Just Don'T Mess Up Perfect Imperfection

eating my spaghetti sandwich
downing my potato pancakes
running through my deluxe taco salad
it is time for bed already

looking for my dessert
longing for my dessert
cannot find my dessert
doggonit if she did not eat my mixed signal dessert

alas! in the overstuffed pantry, hidden behind the hidden, is a box of vanilla protein bars
and she says i do not eat healthy
i read the ingredients
i see the healthy benefits in MY eyes

yep, i can watch the cheaters marathon for night owls
quite a hoot for i who usually has no loot
here she comes
hands on hips
looking beautiful without the makeup

she sits beside me and puts her head on my shoulder
i look at her with the utmost admiration despite her imperfections
she then pinches me, reminding me of the silent hypocrisy
as the third episode of cheaters begins, the journey song sneaks into my mind
you just don't mess up Perfect Imperfection
Forever Hers......Faithfully.......
the food has digested now by cheaters, episode seven
time for bed

Mess Up

In the beginning
and as it shall be for ever:
until we mess up.

Mess Up

Some days,
the snow will fall gray
Other times,
it sparkles white
But no matter
how the snow falls here,
It always
ends up being trod black
Then melting
and be coming a dark river of
Murky water
that floods the gutters
No matter if it's
dull or shining
You can count on it
getting messed up some way or another.
